are there any old skool pen and paper, dice tossing because he has a +3 to defend against virginity gamers out there? what games you like/liked? I still have my books (won't sell em, ever) because i still use them when i can for source material or inspiration for stories. but here's my faves: 1. Shadowrun 2. TMNT and Other Strangeness 3. Vampire: The Masquerade (the old WoD series including werewolf, mage, and wraith...haven't read the new series yet.) 4. Cyberpunk 2020 5. Rifts- the early years. i got out of Rifts when gods and deities and things with a million MDC points showed up, lol. i never got into AD&D because it was tooooo expensive to get the books, and i only knew 3 people that played and we never got past character creation. You might laugh, but i loved Mecha and when i was in 7rh grade IIRC, i bought a Battletech Technical Readout without even knowing what a RPG was. instead, i colored the b&w mecha with coloring pencils. i eventually got BattleTech 3rd Edition, and played my bro-in law a few times, but i just collected the Mecha books and enjoyed the images more.
I've got a friend who's really into it, though me not so much. http://openrpg.wrathof.com/ is the site he likes.
Uh, I did DnD for a while starting a couple years back, but never got that into it. I've supposed to be doing a new campaign for 4.0 though. With crazy online maps and voice chat. Also did the new Stars Wars rules one for awhile which was fun. Never really did anything else though. Oh, except this one that these guys made up by themselves. The system was horrific and then on the first session I was ignored for no reason so I quit.
I'll play stuff occasionally, but haven't recently. Stuff I've played includes: Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (Greyhawk, Spelljammer, Darksun, and some custom settings) Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition Vampire: The Masquerade (in a one-shot Sabbat game) Aberrant (D10 version)
Some guys in high school once talked me into going to a D&D session. During this session one of them cut off an orc's penis and carried it around with him. I urinated in someone's face. I cannot remember why I never tried it again.
There's a good rule of thumb for these. If you go two weeks without getting together for a session, that campaign is dead. It's never failed. I have not once gotten to level three. Doesn't matter which one of us is DMing. It's a shame, I have all these great characters, like a 600-pound bard with a ukulele, a half-orc with an improvised weapon feat (Every encounter starts off with him either picking up a table or an enemy and using it as a club for the rest of the fight), and a young wannabe pirate named Guybrush who gets through the campaign by picking up everything he finds.
I have not rolled a d20 in many years but back in the day my favorites where in no particular order. AD&D 2nd edition TMNT Rifts Shadowrun Mechwarrior Twilight 2000 Later I got more into table top game and Warhammer 40k and Necromunda where my bag.
I spent a VERY brief period of my life on Dungeons and Dragons (about two weeks). I enjoyed it, but not enough to continue.
I used to be a avid player of tabletop RPG. Was the GM at the majority of the RPG sessions. I have played the following: Ravenloft Forgotten Realms Legends of the Five Rings Being the conservative guy that I am I usually don't allow too many xp to be handed out therefore the characters rarely go over level 10 before we changed to another setting. Would love to have them facing Dragons and Beholders from time to time. One of the friends who played with us likes to min/max so much and always bending the rules to gain the most advantage in battle. Let's just say his Ranger character based off Drizzt was so overpowering he could probably take on a Dragon by himself if I'd let him. But we all had fun that's the most important thing. I would love to have played Mechwarrior, Shadowrun, Rifts, and MiddleEarth but sadly the RPG days are far behind me now. Even the local gaming store has closed down. Without friends participating it's almost impossible to find people to play with, not that I have any time for it now.
I have heard about people playing with programs like skype. I'm sure there are sights out there got getting groups of people from all over together for such games. If yu really want to get into again I would google around for it.
i used to be into it...probably still would play if i knew ppl that played it lol. I was big into Battletech...it was great. the guy who was our umm...what do you call him? the guy who organized the session? made up his own game, of course heavily borrowing elements of Ad&d but it was creepy as all hell. dudes mom also always made us/served us some zucchini (sp?) bread lol that stuff was damn good
I still play. Once in a while I talk about campaign ideas in the video game forum (because I cant think of anywhere else), or at least I talk about my ideas when I'm at a blank. I've played alot of table top games, not as many as others I'm sure but I've got my share. The games I own and run are... - Spycraft - Starwars - Heavy Gear - If anyone ever wants to play MechWarrior (BattleTech is technically the tactical game) - Shadowrun, sadly never got to run it, but I have to core book that's paitently waiting. The game's I've played before (that I think are worth mentioning). - D&D (of course! ) - Legend of the Five Rings - Scion - Exaulted - Savage Worlds
My last two games were conducted via skype. Still managed to die off, though. The people I play with can't even meet once a week FROM THEIR OWN HOUSES.
Lets see.... 15 years of playing everything form D&D, AD&D, 3.0, 3.5, and now getting my feet wet onm 4.0 (its not bad so give it a shot). Ive battled Strahd from Ravenloft (one character had a summer home in Borovia at one point due to several GM's love of the realm), been hunted by Drizzit (mistaken idenity... of sorts. my Drow Cleric/Ranger of Eiliestree has a twin sister that he was looking for), had the Scarlet Brotherhood try to burn down my mage's tower (they didnt like me too well... maybe torching their mages tower and stealing his collection of spellbooks wasnt a good idea but hey I got Wish out of the deal), and finally sailed the realms on my Starhammer ship batteling Gythanki. Ive also played GURPs (love it), Top Secret/SI (excellent d100 spygame), Star Wars d20 (Tech Specialists can be overpowered early on... i had a +15 to my tech checks at 1st level and i wasnt powergaming), and the WoW d20 game (Tauren hunters ftw). I have a nice bookcase full of books and suplements, some hard to find like "Complete book of Necromancers" and "Drow of the Underdark" from AD&D along with some of the Magic Item Compendiums (those are hard as hell to get... dont get me started on the Wizard and Cleric Compendiums.... im missing most of them)
I'm still a pretty avid player of pen and paper RPG's. We have a group that meets about once a month and plays. We play alot of D&D, but also play D6 Starwars, D6 DC heroes (though we actually play a DC villians campaign where the players are super villians). OCcasionaly pay the old FASA star trek. Used to be in a group that played Vampire, and it was great. But sadly most of us moved away. Was a great ongoing campaign for quite a while.
Me and my friends like to get on occasion together and play this. Best part is, you don't need to buy a single damn book for it.
I played 2nd Ed AD&D back in the proverbial day, along with some Mechwarrior. Then in late HS I got into Warhammer 40K. Just recently I felt the urge to get into D&D again with 4th Ed's appearance. The local games store is supposed to be starting a D&D night, but I'm not what you'd call a regular so I may have to fight a bit to get a spot. And I recently found some of my 40K stuff and am looking to hock it... Anyone interested?
BattleTech was all table top strategy, Mechwarrior added RPG to it. If every one live with in a reasonable distance from each other (like the same town) playing on skype is silly as hell. But if you don’t have access to a local group I think it a fine alternative. I forgot I use to play the Marvel RPG a lot. And Paranoia a few times. My character was given a gun that could kill anything in one shot, problem was it could only be fired once a day had a barrel sticking out both ends and the shot could come out either end.
