Just a comparison photo of the five wave-1 PCC Commander toys in their Powerup mode (minus Drones) because the 2-pack toys don't have it shown on the packaging. Plus, the first 3 Minicons in Armor mode (which is also not shown on the packaging).

For those who don't know, every Commander toy has the ability to be a Combiner, but only some are packed with a set of drones (5-packs), while others are just packed with a minicon (2-packs).

My guess is that the designers picked the ones that looked best in Combiner mode and packed them with drones, as that mode would be the form featured on the packaging - the less appealing ones were then put in 2-packs which don't even show their Powerup mode.

Top row is Searchlight, Smolder and Huffer. Bottom row is Skyburst and Bombshock. In the middle are the Minicons in their Chest-armour modes (just like the Commander Powerup modes, these Minicon modes are not shown on the packaging).

I think Huffer would have been a good 5-pack Commander, but Smolder and Searchlight have flaws, so isn't surprising they were put in a 2-pack.

The core figures from the five pack are missing the chest points to mount a Minicon in Armour mode implying the intention was for them to be sold with the drones all along.

Since you've got all 5 can you get pics of each combiner with each limb set ? And test if you can use a combaticon leg opposite an aerialbot leg ?

Well, two pack Smolder is gang-molded to his minicon it seems (both use translucent orange and solid black plastic)... so who knows how they make them so far.

They better have worked it out so they can resell Huffer with the rallybot drones all repainted as Menasor in a 5 pack.

    DO YOU HEAR ME HASBRO!?

Good point - I hadn't really noticed that. So maybe the uglier ones during design phase were given the minicon port before production... maybe? (I'm just guessing)

    Okay...

The legs appear to be universal in size, allowing for mix-and-match between Commanders.
And not only do you have mixing of Drones, you can even have switching of left and right side limbs, giving even more possible combinations (to pick a combination that looks best for you).

I started with Bombshock, since there is interest in trying to make a true combaticon set.

First, Bombshock with his own Drones, and with the Aerialbot Drones.

Then each with mixed Drones, on the left is the four I think would look best as Combaticons (blue Vortex, white Blast Off, plus a tank and jeep for Brawl and Swindle), leaving the four on the right as an alternative combination.

Next up are the three 2-pack Commander figures with alternative sets of Drones. (I kept the drones in their Combaticon and Aerialbot sets, so that I only needed to take 2 photos of each)
From left - Huffer with Combaticons (a bit of a Menasor look), Searchlight with Aerialbots (a better Superion look than Skyburst because of the winged chest-plate), Smolder with Combaticons.

Skyburst with Combaticons, Huffer with Aerialbots, Searchlight with Combaticons.

    And Smolder with Aerialbot Drones.

And for the ultimate Powerup, the 2-pack Commanders in Powerup (Combiner) mode WITH Minicon Armor.

I don't think they just happened to arrive at Combaticons and the Aerielbots using this approach.

Thanks for all the pics. Seeing all the different combos is really getting me excited for this line. Huffer looks great with the Combaticons.

okay, so since we now know that everything is interchangeable, do we know that the feet always have to be the feet and the arms are always the arms?

Yes, we do. Peaugh covered that in one of his PCC video reviews from about a month ago. You'll also notice that the same drones are always arms and legs here.

    Hmmm.

Stupid looking arms with no freaking hands.

No robot modes for the team members.

Transluscent minicons that don't mix aesthetically and look dumb.

The only pluses are 1) the scramble-city aspect which looks fun, but the arms and legs don't switch and 2) the head reveals of the central bot is fun.

The negatives outweigh the positives. I'll skip this entire line and buy MP Grimlock and TakaraTomy Unicron instead. :D

I like the idea of this line and think kids would have a great time with it. On the other hand I think the arm drones for the combiners look pretty bad. I might pick up Huffer just for the homage.

Thanks for the pics Griffin-of-Oz. I look forward to getting these. How tall are the 2 pack figures in standard robot modes?
