That's just painful. If I had been the buyer, and I'd had buyer's remorse and wanted my money back, I'd have just resold the violin. Hell, these things appreciate in value. He probably could have made money.

What an idiot. A true collector would value the item, not the money.

I agree with you Ikkstak , heck even if it was claimed to be a fake prove it before you have the buyer destroy it. There is nothing in the article that says either they buyer or pal pal had it verified as a fake.

I am not sure I even want to click on that link, that just seems like it would make me 1500 kinds of salty.

I can't believe the buyer sent a photo of the destroyed violin to the seller. That was completely unnecessary and just plain cruel. And for Paypal to request it be destroyed at all. What is wrong with these people?

Paypal gets more cartoonishly evil each day, it seems.

All this just makes me wonder, why isn't there any competition to Paypal, at all? Other alternatives to use?

    Wow, that was horrible.

Like, I get that it's technically a fake, but when it comes to musical instruments, weapons, etc (especially ones that predate the technological era), many of them have become collectible by now & known to be what they are (not what they were made to look like back in the day), so this really seems like a case of law overpowering letter in a negative way.

It would be nice to see the outcome of this. I think by the end of the week this will catch on to major news networks/news sites.

I'm still pissed off at PP putting that 30 day funds hold on my account that I have for over 6 years. Some person from PP decided to randomly place that hold of all incoming funds. After some calls and a few transfers/bitching to supervisors, I had it lifted.

American Express has started something called Serve. Someone I know posted a link on facebook. Serve | How Serve Works
I haven't tried it yet. I hate that I rely a bit on paypal.

Paypal is getting more and more despicable and stupid. I'd love to close my account and never use it anymore but that would mean no more international purchase which would kill my hobby for sure.

Too bad there's so little websites supporting alternatives to Paypal.

    :lol

While I think sending the picture to the seller was a shit thing to do, if the only way to get my $2500 back was to smash that violin it's no contest. Firewood it is.
