That's strange. I'm positive I read a similar article that praised the "good worth of mouth"-aspect and predicted $150 million in the first three days. Or maybe I'm crazy.

I think they know it's going to be great, maybe they don't want to appear cocky

Would be hysterical if NO ONE went - just for 24 hours. Just to f-ck with their numbers and scare them to death :)

$150 million dollars in 7 day is good for any movie. But I have no doubt in my mind that TF3 will SOAR above that prediction. My guess would be $300m easily.

They didn't advertise this movie nearly as much as the other two, so I'm not surprised they suspect it will make that much.

I could see that in 7 days, added with the 3D money, I think once word of mouth gets out people will see it in 3D, maybe first see it in 2D, then 3D, it's gonna be nuts

Well, we can all agree that after theaters DOTM will make very close to a billion, dig?

They don't need to advertise it as much as before. The past two movies did gangbusters. If the general public knows it's coming, they don't really need to be told twice for most of them to consider going to see it.

I've seen a ton of tv spots. Seems like there is plenty of advertising out there.

Maybe they're unsure? I think that's an underestimate though, I know how much I've already spent on tickets but it is a recession and it's been a shitty year for the box office. I hope it does above and beyond ROTF but I don't really know what's going to happen.

I'm still very sure it'll be better then RotF due to a lack of a writer's strike or anything that could temporarily cripple the movie industry.

Megone Faux fans and random people are sure it's going to tank, they underestimate the TF fandom.

It won't, that much is certain.

Even though it was a critical bomb people forget that RotF made enough money to be the highest grossing film of 2009 before Avatar came out.

Eh, that's probably about right. People are sick of 3D and RotF gave Transformers a bad reputation, so anticipating a massive opening week is kind of wishful thinking. Its earnings are going to die instantly as soon as HP 7 part 2 is out, so thinking it'll gross $1 billion worldwide at the end of its run is out of the question. It might end up doing better than RotF, but I wouldn't count on it.

The good thing is DTOM has two weekends (including an extended holiday weekend) before HP arrives. Most movies are pretty front end loaded anyway and make a good bulk of their total in the first few weeks.

EDIT - but unfortunately the crowded schedule is affecting available IMAX screenings. They have to split the market with Cars 2 since they are opening so close to each other. That will hurt a bit!
