    Hey guys:

Was wondering if there are any collectors who look for specific packaging errors?

I have a Generations Wheeljack with a Warpath insert. Card is still Wheeljack. It is with my MOSC collection. I just noticed it today. Got it from one of the BBTS shipments back when they had the wave in stock.

Ideas on increased value, if any? If not, it's still an interesting piece to keep around I guess.

I don't know if there's any specific group that would look for packaging errors, but they are kinda nice to find once in a while. Not sure on how secondary market value is affected by it. My guess is, it would only increase it to someone who collects those kinds of things.

I think in a case like this the value isn't really affected. I think things that are more affected are things like actual errors on a package that are later corrected. Also, errors like that tend to have a wider run. What you have here is probably a simple one-off production error.

Yea, I don't think they go up in value much.

I have a Classics Grimlock packaging error. On the back where the "also available" toys are shown, it says Astrotrain with a pick of Jetfire. I only kept it MISB for my own amusement.

Ah, this should also go to the "What's the stupidest reason you bought a toy?" but in my earlier days, I bought a bunch of figures with error packaging simply because I thought they'd be worth something :p  And those Toybiz X-men figures are still with me :D

lol well too bad this isn't like baseball cards where people used to pay good money for "errors"......I remember a Billy Ripken error that went for as much as $80. If only that would happen to TFs

IMO TF packaging errors either have no effect on the value of an item or they cause the value to drop. I've never heard of there being any benefit to it whatsoever.

Unless you have a corrected Targetmaster Hot Rod or Scourge i don't think it makes much of a difference.

I'm sure there will be a few people out there that actively collect these things (there's a collector for everything these days) but I doubt that it would make the value of the errored figure any higher. If that was the case I'd imagine there'd be people working in the factories making their own 'errors' to sell for profit.

I speculated a few times on these sorts of things in my early days, and yeah, no one really cares. True errors like this tend to be either price-neutral, or actually HURT the value sometimes.

That, however, is a different animal. That is a printing error, not a packaging error. Had a normal Billy Ripken card been placed in the wrong wrapper, we could make an argument as those would be parallel situations.

Thanks for the input guys. It's on the MOSC shelf, confused as to whether he's Wheeljack or Warpath.

In regards to Gen Magnus' comment, I'm imagining opening an older Upper Deck baseball card pack and finding Topps cards.

    Haha.

For a lot of collectors, it actually decreases the value.

I have this one as well and kept it sealed all these years.

I have a TM Hot Rod and his box has a sticker over the wrong name with the correct name.

I have FOUR Legends Rampage figures with Ravage's insert. Every time I found one I'd buy it.

True. But then again.....I rarely ever see a TF painting (paint apps) error if never.

    (Fail swaps not included)

Yeah I have an Armada minicon team that had the wrong insert in it as well. I've already figured out that some people think they are neat but overall no one cares.

I bought a second RotF legends Tankor because the blister's name tag said "Jetfire". It is completely worthless, but I keep it sealed for the lulz.
