Since I've heard that this film about the prequel to the Wizard of Oz was being made I have some intreste in it. I grew up watching the original 1939 film and the book it was based off of and I have to say it looks pretty promising so far. It's also neat that Sam Raimi the director of the Spider-Man trilogy's behind it too. :)

    Here's the official trailer.

I love how it has elements of the original novel and the famous 1939 film. :)

I was skeptical at first, but this movie actually doesn't look that bad. I was surprised to see them use black and white at all and I am very happy that they did. The only complaint I have is that Oz looks a bit too much like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie. Sam Raimi is one of my favorite directors and I hope this will be good. On a side note, it will be so easy for me to get a date for this movie because half the girls in my class have a crush on James Franco.

Shame that Bruce Cambell supposedly had his scene in the movie cut for time constraints.

Bruce Campbell is in the movie, he's under some make up, but if you recognize his voice and style of line delivery, you will pick him right away. There is also a fright scene towards the end which is lifted from Army of Darkness, so I thought that was a cool reference.

The China Girl is just about the best character in the movie as well.

I wasn't so sure about having a final battle in the land of oz, but the way they do it and using what we know about the wizard in the 39 movie, it is quite clever.

Mila Kunis though, her performance is fairly questionable and probably the weak link in what I would call an otherwise great movie.

while i do think this movie looks good. i think the "Dorothy of Oz" aka, Return to Oz, looks much more fun.

as they do not appear to be trying to make it tie together with a movie that was made before any of us was even born. rather then just trying to make it, it's own movie.

but i do hope it will still be good.

Got paid to see a prescreening of it here in DisneyWorld and it was pretty bad. Like new alice in wonderland kinda bad. It had kind of a bad story with a horrible twist halfway through. The good segments are decent but nothing amazing and I felt James Franco was far too modern to be cast in this. His speech pattern and dialect just dont fit with the time period hes supposed to be from or the in OZ. Its pretty bad. The best character is prolly the little china girl.

Can't stand Sam Raimi as a director and am very over the whole James Franco overhype thing, so this one will be a "see it on Sunday TV... someday... maybe" for me.

Bruce Campbell is now part of The Land of Oz. I just want people to sit down and think about this.

Are you kidding? Over the past several years, he is EVERYWHERE and his every move has been turned into a 'story'. Hosting the Oscars, in a dozen movies all in the same year, voluntarily doing a stint on General Hospital since he missed out on being a soap opera actor when starting out, directing this movie, producing that movie, acting in stage plays, getting a degree at Harvard (or Yale), etc etc etc. The media and even Hollywood actors got to the point of jokingly referencing how anything & everything they do will probably include James Franco now. I mean, it's kind of died down in the past year thankfully, but for a while there, you couldn't turn on a TV, look at a website or open a magazine without some Franco related headline.

He's been hyped up for years. Almost a decade now. Since those spiderman movies became big. He's been in art, documentaries, etc. I think he even teaches a class (or used to) about himself. That's about as ridiculous as it gets.
