It's been about 3 years since I had this display out. I had to do some cleaning and rework the electrical inside to get it up to snuff again. Also, this time, I added a "banner" across the bottom showcasing the most famous of the Autobots and Decepticons. There are a few folks in there that will eventually be repaints, but since they fit the Alt/Masterpiece size scale, I included them for now. They'll be plucked out and repainted/kitbashed as I have time.
Taht is awesome looking! And i'm particularly a big fan of some of the custom alts you've got there! CAn you get some better pics of some of the custom alternators?!
Some are here in the gallery...here are a few: Windcharger (OWAT) - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM Streetwise (OWAT) - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM Sunstreaker (OWAT) - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM Trailbreaker (OWAT) - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM Bumblebee (OWAT) - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM Cliffjumper (OWAT) - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing! I really love the banner on the bottom.. It really makes it feel like a museum piece! *edit* streetwise is amazing!!! They're all really good, but this is my fave!
Thanks guys. It took a lot of clean-up work to get the case back to where it is now. I appreciate the compliments.
AWESOME display! That little banner makes it look like you swiped the case from BotCon or something. Well done, dude! I like it! ~Z
Funny, how appropriate your choices for the banner were given the Hall of Fame. All those figures in your display, especially the customs, look incredible. I am wondering though, is Skids destined for a more G1 customization or is he alone simply because you can't find Mudflap? Thanks for sharing. This should totally be frontpaged.
Yeah, Skids is destined for customization. I'm thinking about repainting him and popping Sculpt-bot's Gears head on him, if I can find it. All of my kitbashing stuff got so disorganized when I moved.
Dude that's badass. I love that you mixed and matched series to get the right scale/representation of each character. Amazing stuff, you can tell you put a lot of work into it.
I'm jealous of that display case! Look's very professional with the labels. Awesome set up man, best so far! Where did you get that particular display case from? Look's like it might fit in my room.
The case is actually an old jewelry display case. My buddy helped me replace the fiberboard on the walls with brushed aluminum; I did the interior (the '84-looking banner, back wall and floor panel.) I was able to get my hands on the display case for cheap when a department store nearby was closing. Probably the best way to get display cases like this now is to prowl around on Craigslist.
Very nice. I appreciate a smaller, less cluttered, setup like this over some of the giant setups I've seen.
Quick question. I've considered a display case with lights, but I have a worry that the light might discolor some of the figures. Do you or anyone else for that matter have encountered that problem?
Here's the thing - I don't leave the light on. I only turn on the light if I'm showing the case off to other folks. That way, the only amount of flourescent (maybe UV? Not sure) light hitting the toys is probably only about 3-5 mins. worth per week (average.) Other than that, they're in a nice, cool, shaded area in the house so they don't get a lot of thermal/heat or light exposure. If you're planning to do a case with lighting, just turn the light on if you're showing the toys off, or if you want to have a look at them yourself.
