So what are some toys that you see getting more love than you think they deserve? What toy do you like to pick up and play with that you feel you don't see mentioned often enough?

I'll start things off with something kinda recent...

    Overrated
The Last Knight Voyager Class Megatron - By no means a bad figure (remember, something being overrated doesn't necessarily mean you think it is bad), but this guy does get a bit more hype than I feel he deserves. He is a very serviceable figure with a fairly fun transformation and he looks good in both of his modes. That said, people will almost always recommend him over the leader class and I just can't agree with that stance. The alt mode isn't bad, but the leg kibble is a bit eh (honestly the legs are the weakest part of the transformation for both figures, but at least the leader hides them better). The size is another mark against it compared to the leader. I just feel Megs deserves to be, well, big and imposing. I also don't like the hip skirts on him all that much, they're too..flat and panel-y rather than the nice armor plates on the leader class, though I do like how the side pieces transform from the thrusters. I also find that in the poses he looks best in that the open wrist holes are way worse than they are on the leader class and he lacks wrist swivels. The overall silhouette and just look of the figure feels cheaper and less impressive. Again, granted, he is like half the price, but again people are pushing it as superior to the leader and I just don't agree with the statement at all. Oh, and I do much prefer the face mask look for Megs this time around and you get that with the leader (or can have the open mouth version if you prefer even there).

    Underrated
Universe Ultra Class Onslaught - Yeah, not the FoC crap we got or even the slightly better Combiner Wars version. No, I mean the big, mean, bulky SWAT tank we got some years back. Part of it is a bit of a strange fondness and nostalgia I have for the figure, I picked him up on the way home with my mom from a trip we took to Morongo casino where we spent the weekend when I first turned 18 so it is a bit special to me personally. But even beyond that, he's just a really cool looking take on the character that retains a lot of the overall design elements of Onslaught while really toughening him up. His alt mode is pretty damn unique, and looks MEAN. The swat shield is a cool touch, as is the flip out arm cannon. I LOVED the way his legs transformed, I've always had a thing for unique and interesting leg transformations and I don't really know why (I loved Animated Ultra Magnus for this as well). The colors look good, the sounds are..there and easy to turn off. Only real complaint I have is that his guns on the turret can pop off easily. I really miss this size class though man, I get why they dropped it, but with the overall downsizing and cutting of plastic we've seen..these are practically leader class equivalents these days. I seem to recall people digging him in the day, but he just never really seems to come up anymore.

Honorable mention goes out to Voyager Seaspray from Reveal the Shield (or was it Hunt for the Decepticons?), damn was that an awesome update to a character that, by all means, probably didn't even really deserve to have one so..awesome. Would have loved if Cosmos got one to go alongside him and Powerglide. And one last shoutout to Universe Ratbat, probably one of the single greatest repaints in the history of Transformers. My God did I fall in love with that figure.

Good picks n both counts and I think you make good points. I wonder how much of this will be relevant only to people who don't already own the toys in question though. I actually JUST sold my Ultra Class Onslaught. I loved that figure and pulled it out of the bin regularly...I also recall that it was held in very high regard when it came out...only the passage of time and changing fan tastes pushed this one out of the spotlight.

    Overrated:
Revenge of the Fallen leader class Optimus Prime

Only since the Movie MP has come out has this mold started to really fall out of favor but it has generally been held up as a marvel...and it really is. The level of complexity is absolutely inconceivable for a modern retail Transformer...and it had electronics too! Incredible... That said, unless you're invested in the puzzle aspect of a figure, this guy isn't much fun. Many steps, some very non-intuitive procedures and a lengthy process make transforming the guy a project. Last time I did it, I believe I spent about 15 minutes just trying to remember the process. Yep. I still love that figure but the praise is misdirected to some degree, IMO.

    Underrated:
    Alternators/Binaltech (the whole damn line)

These guys were HUGE when they came out. They were the MP craze before there were many MPs to collect. Roughly in-scale with the insanely wonderful MP-01 Convoy/Prime, these figures were stunning on many levels. They ran for about three years (2003-2006?) and the line was squashed by a few factors. They were hampered by licensing issues, meandering and puzzling character assignments, a limited number of molds and occasionally balky engineering, eventually buried for good by the growing MP line that was more true to the property that we know and love...but in retrospect, taken in isolation, these figures are astounding. Scale model licensed cars, usually with interiors and working steering racks, rubber tires, at voyager/leader class size....unthinkable value for $20, even at that time. The line is very uneven and I believe that appreciating them requires being selective. So many of us bought and cherished multiple copies of these guys that they can be had for embarrassingly cheap prices as folks sell off their doubles. They're a weird and wonderful footnote in TF history...and wildly underappreciated these days.

I just picked up TR/T30 cosmos and he’s my entry for OVERRATED. Please don’t shoot! He’s cool and as a robot he has a unique presence, but to transform he needs to be tabbed EXACTLY so, he’s a bit clumsy and when fully put into alt mode he is still a bit gappy...

UNDERRATED I would probably go with runamuck and runabout. There’s so much playability in these two g1ers that bring me simple joy. Even 30 years on they work and entertain the nieces and nephews as well as my daughter! It’s very easy to write them off as a gimmicky brick but kids love em!

Sad to say, I think TR Triggerhappy is a little overrated at this point. Excellent transformation, but his color scheme doesn't do much for me and the arm kibble is annoying enough to make me prefer both of his retools over him.

T30 Roadbuster gets way too much shit. Perfectly good figure with a satisfying transformation.

I'm sorry. I really don't get it. His altmode is okay and that's about the only good thing I can say about him.
The CW in comparison gets derided for being a random retool, but he does everything better.

Who gives Roadbuster shit? I'll give em hell.

    The Primemaster decoys.
Come on! They are literally the least effort Hasbro could put into updated Pretenders.
I can see how they can be fun toys, but they even lose to the G1 guys in that departement. Because those at least had an altmode.
They were derided for having a simple transformation and altmode, but both were leagues better than what we got in potp.
The primemaster decoys have no altmode other than stick a weapon on them and lie them down and the titanmasters transform into... nothing.
They also have exactly the same and in some cases less articulation than the originals.
How am I expected to take it seriously when people claim they didn't like the G1 Pretenders but think the Primemaster decoys are fun?

Overrated... hell I cant even get THAT negative over toys and I guess I just don't have enough to have the depth of Knowledge to call it but...

    UnderRated
I don't care how high you rate it currently there can be NO Over rating T 30 Jetfire. I know there is a line of stuff I will never touch that carries the name but he is an absolute masterpiece of a toy.

CW BC Optimus...Just a biggish chunky simple perfect Ultroptimus Primagnus that combines with the early Carbots. He is so fun to play with.

CW Mirage... My First Autobot so they had to get him pretty well done for me to not be disappointed and I love it so they did big on him.

CW Leader Seekers... come at me bro.

Overrated: TR Trigerrhappy--a nice solid deluxe who I enjoy, but I don't get the virtual "best figure ever!" praise he gets--I don't really see what is ultra-special about him...

Underrated: G1 Quickswitch: I was just messing with him the other day and he is a really fun toy. I think he gets overlooked and even hated on unfairly. Just because he didn't live up to the insanely good standard of his father, doesn't mean he also isn't quite good too.

Overrated: TLK Nitro. Looks great in bot mode but, while the transformation is interesting...it's so overly complicated and tab-tastic that it's not intuitive or fun at all. He's the "DOTM Leader Sentinel Prime" of the latest movie line. Blah!

Underrated: Putting CW Megatron, TR Soundwave, the CW Seekers, Masterpiece Shockwave and the CW Constructicons on display together. That's one tight large-scale Decepticon CHUG-G1 lineup!

Overrated: Has to go with Titans Return Sixshot. I'm sorry, but a Leader-class toy not having shoulder spread is unacceptable. Throw in issues with his alt-modes pegging in together (and this is inherited from his G1 incarnation) but some pretty weak alt-modes and I'm thoroughly "meh" on it.

Underrated: Alternators Battle Ravage. Between Tracks and Jaguar Ravage I never hear people talk about this version of the Corvette mold and it's one of my favorite Ravages and favorite Alternators. Bonus, it can actually hold his gun!

I can sort of agree with this, he isn't even the best 88 Target master remake from TR... in fact the weird shoulder/ arm articulation almost puts him third. I like him enough to army build him, love his color scheme there is a LOT good to say about him but ...
    " best deluxe Ever"??

    naw dude, hell naw.

Completely agree with ALL of this, I only have TR Megatron and no Shockwave but TR Megs, TR SW, CW Seekers, CW Constructicons with the legends Insecticons hanging out around their shins just hits me RIGHT on the feels as a / the super iconic and classic Decpeticon "set"... that setup may be my current all time favorite toy experience right up there with
" Entire battle of Hoth set up on a white sheet"
    and
" 1983 GI Joe Headquarters full of ME figures over ran by about 60 POC Style Cobra troopers"

TLK Nitro is a piece of shit. Falls apart, impossible to transform in under a half hour of cussing and sighing, fucked up articulation once you do, stupid arm crap on both arms ( my crossbow thingy just disintegrates if you breath in the room with it), head wont stay on and to this day I have never figured out where to stow it in Alt mode... head wont fit in cockpit even though it is ostensibly a Titan Master thingy. Thunder thighs contributing to fucktard articulation.

Redeeming qualities... Very pretty Alt mode, but that sis couched by the fact that it doesn't scale with anything and looks BAD out of place with all my other Earth mode stuff.
Bot looks coolish from 15 feet in the back of a group of 'cons as ...
" unnamed character to be featured in a future storyline".

But that being said if my 6yo didn't like him for some inexplicable reason or I didn't have a package and receipt that I COULD use to return him and get something else/good I would have thrown him in the fucking River a long time ago.

I know I said I wasn't trying to be too negative about a toy but you brought up one that I looked for spent money on and I am particular UUUUGHHGHGHGHG!!!?!!? about

You're meant to leave his head on when transforming him. It can stay in the neck port throughout transformation, and in alt-mode.

Also, out of curiosity, what part of the crossbow is falling apart?

    I'll chip in:

Under-rated:TR Mindwipe and TR Chromedome. Both look great, and Mindwipe has one of the most creative transformations I've seen in a generations deluxe figure. These two toys simply got over-shadowed by some other great deluxes from the TR line. Chromedome also got hurt by vagaries in distribution - it seemed that the market got absolutely swamped with him last X-Mas right after I, and likely many others, got tired of waiting for him to show in B & M and got him online.

Over-rated: TR Sixshot. A nicely designed and fun toy, but not quite the religious experience that you'd expect from some comments in this forum. Great robot mode, but all of the alt modes disappoint to varying degrees. Is expecting five high-quality alt modes for the same figure unrealistic? Yeah, and I concede that this is probably as good a widely commercially available Sixshot as you could make or get. Still, if you put, say, his car mode next to another TF's car mode, Sixshot loses the comparison every time.

I know I am supposed to leave the head on but enevitable something bumps into it during the change and then it either wont go back on unless I go back to bot and start over or there isn't enough cleqarence to get it anywhere once all that shit around it gets moving around and...

    Yes, that's which part.

But seriously... both crossbow cross-members and both fuselage panels that are held on by those lil friction nubs .. which end up getting worn and don't work every time Hasbro uses them. It is important to note I have a 2YO and a ^YO who have full access to all of these toys so they see hard action.

    Thanks Obama!
