Went to get acrylic paints in preparation for some faceplates arriving tomorrow. The enamels section was pretty huge and varied but not so much acrylics, couldn't find anything resemlbing "acrylic primer" either so I'm concerned over painting black hi-def acrylic in Hardhead colors.

Model Master makes acrylic primer in white and gray, but if your store doesn't stock it you can get by with flat white acrylic paint. Hard plastics usually don't really require a primer, although it can help, and keeps black plastic from showing through.

When painting on black with acyrlic, I usually paint the area first with several coats of thinned white or gray, and then paint the color over it, then clearcoat. Alternatively, I've had success with automotive spray primer, but you again have to be careful to use thin coats sprayed at a distance to keep from obscuring detail.

Having had the Soundwave/Stalker kit in hand for a little while (it's awesome! :D  ), I have a couple of suggestions:
    • I think it would be useful to break the kit up a little (besides offering just the face). For example, my ideal would be to use WSF for the main rocket, FUD/FED for the nose cone, and HD Acrylate for everything else.
    • A radar dish would really help complete this. Especially if it still provided some way to equip all the gear at once.
    • A replacement canopy would be even more awesome. The original canopy is made of paint-phobic plastic and the color is mixed into it. A replacement could be printed in FUD or Transparent Acrylic and painted in translucent paint of any color.
    Some WIP pics!

Can't wait to see what it looks like complete!

I'll look into making a separated version for those who want to split it up between multiple print types. The radar dish is tricky, since Hardhead only has the four points and there's no good 5mm peg attachment points in vehicle mode.

hmm one could make a clip on that goes over the peg that is exposed in the rear of the tank mode. It tabs the back into the rear of the bot mode if I remember right. The trick would be to make it slot into something in bot mode.

Hi-def acrylic faces came today, a day late

they seem kind of "sticky" and almost wet though. Should I wash them in soapy water or isopropyl alcohol before painting them?

That's probably the support material. either of those cleaning methods should take care of it, I tend to use goo-gone followed by soap and water..

Or, if we got a replacement canopy part, it could have a 5mm port on top ;)

I personally was hoping someone would .ake extended shoulder joints and new tabs that fit in the slot better on the front treads myself.

Sayyyyy... It occures to me that the Hooligan/Jetfire Cyberjets face is also good for Universe 2008 "Skyfall"), and would be a great mod for the mold. And that gave me more ideas:

    DARKWIND face
For Universe ultra Darkwind (since he was a Powermaster before)

    CYCLONUS face (with horns)
Galvatron and Scourge got Titan Mastered, it would be cool to do the same for Cyclonus. Could fit the TFU 2008 deluxe mold.

    STORMCLOUD face
For TFU 2008 ultra Stormcloud (since he was originally a Micromaster anyway). Heck, a Powerglide face would be welcome too.

    FLAK face
For Universe ultra "Overload" (who is an homage to Micromaster Flak)

    TREADBOLT face
For Universe voyager Treadbolt (another Micromaster character upsized)

    DROPSHOT face
For Universe ultra Dropshot (another Micromaster character upsized)

    COUNTDOWN face
For Universe ultra Countdown (another Micromaster character upsized) - the vehicle mode even has a good seat area for the Titanmaster.

    PERCEPTOR face
    For CHUG deluxe truck Perceptor

    MEGATRON face
Just because I doubt I'll be buying the TR one, and there are a lot of toys I could use for this face.

Well, I already have a Sunbow Style Megatron, and they're making Perceptor in the main line.

True, true. But I bet you could do a better modern-Megs-face than HasTak...

Oh that's right, I forgot! Derp.

Waiting for the paint to cure before applying clearcoat (got Krylon acrylic chalky, hoping that's the right spray to use), but no reason I couldn't slip it onto the headmaster in the meantime.

This is so much better than the stock face it's not even funny.
