Outkast is one of the few rap groups I really like and I'm looking forward to their new album "IdleWild." They have it up on MySpace for preview if anyone's interested. Plus the IdleWild movie comes out next weekend as well.

Movies starring rap/hip-hop artists are never that good, tradition tells us.

have you seen dre act? cat can ball!

ludacris has some real acting chops too.

if anything, its the comedians who's stealing all the good black roles these days. look at that guy who played ray charles.

I liked his character a lot in Crash...

Aside from him, I like Ice Cube too for acting... LL's not bad... Ja Rule should be banned from movies... Busta was decent... Tupac was good... 'Course all of them had minor roles with the exception of Cube in all the Friday movies... Will Smith was good in Bad Boys and other movies...

They're not the best of actors, but there definitely are worse...

I actually have this fear of plane rides now after watching Final Destination...:(

B.O.T... I hope this movie does more wonders for OutKast... They are the only ones keeping me somewhat interested in hip hop...

8 Mile (starring Eminem) $242 million worldwide gross (Eminem won the Academy Award for Best Song)

Four Brothers (starring Andre 3000 of OutKast): $92 million worldwide

Finding Forrester (featuring Busta Rhymes): $80 million worldwide

Hustle and Flow (a song about hip hop, featuring hip hoppers, including Ludacris): $23 million worldwide (on a $2.8 million production); won Oscar for Best Song, main actor nominated for Best Actor

BarberShop (starring Ice Cube): $77 million on a $12 million budget

Boyz n the Hood (featuring Ice Cube): $57 million on a $6.5 million budget, despite being released in under 1,000 theatres.

And that's not counting the figures if you count Will Smith as a rapper. Turns out, if you look past stereotypes of rappers being poor actors, there are some pretty good performances being turned out.

    And yeah, I'm bored.

Been interested in seeing this since the trailer came out a couple of months back.
Outkast has been one of my favorite hip hop artists since they first came out with Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik way back when I was in high school (hence the SN atlianz).

I'm interested in Idlewild as well. Outkast seemingly can do no wrong. They also remain one of the few hip hop acts that I'm still interested in. Not that modern rap/hip hop is bad, just not my cup of tea for the most part.

Have you seen the trailer? Do you know what the movie is about? Do you have anything to justify such a negative response, or is it based solely upon a stereotype of musician actors?

Who knows, to each their own. Initially, I didn't realize who was in the movie and it still interested me. It has an interesting story, being set in the prohibition days in the racist (for 1930s) South. It looks like (from the trailer) a musical similar to one of my favorites - Moulin Rouge. I honestly can't wait to see it, but that will likely be on DVD format...

I do plan on getting the soundtrack because I'm and OutKast fan. They aren't the typical cliche hip-hop group, which is good. On their Speakerboxx/The Love Below album they blended with other sounds beauftifully, and The Love Below had some awesome sounding (almost Jazz) type tracks.
