New to TF toys but I remember back in the 80s a lot of the TF toys were out. Are those available in remade sets these days? I wouldn't mind picking up a dinobot and devastator models?

    Welcome to the boards. :)

What exactly do you mean by remakes? Do you mean the old 80s toys re-released, or the 80s designs as new toys?

Unfortunately, there are plenty of KO Dinobots and Devastators. There's a proper reissue of Devastator too from the Encore line, but only the original release of the Dinobots if you want the authentic version.

Which is why I don't really collect US TFs. Japanese ones are easier to tell just by the box art alone.

    Wait a second, there's a KO C-91 box.

But still a safer game on the overall. :p

Iirc that KO Computron boxart was obviously different, it's a hell of a lot easier differentiating that than the U.S versions...and ye, I haven't bought any Dinobots, because of these KO's. I have MP Grimlock, that'll do for now and it's obviously far better :p

Yep and , naysayers aside, there are some really nice ones out there. If you aren't collecting for investment and just for yourself and you are on a budget then those are the ones you want. They are almost exactly the same in look, feel and design.

There are reissues of the other transformers as well. I'd recommend some of those over the KOs or originals but steer clear of the reissue Jazz from Hasbro or Takara. It's utter garbage.

Who has KOs? I seen some on eBay shipped from HK but doesn't come with a nice box. How tall is the original Dev?

You have to investigate a bit. We have a third party section here with recommendations for KO dealers. IF you are after originals and reissues I suggest buying in person or from reputable here or recommended on ebay.

Except they break twice as easy, are made of a cheaper plastic, and have bad molding in places.

I ended up with one of those "high-quality" Sideswipes once. I know.

Not any of the ones I own. The only issue I ever had was loose legs on a wheeljack but there's since been a second run where it's been fixed.

Of course it's not perfect but neither are official reissues. Case in point, Jazz.

As an aside why would you buy a KO of a readily available reissue at the same , and maybe lower, price?

Again, official reissues aren't made of brittle plastic that can't survive a 2 foot drop to the carpet. Official reissues aren't perfect, but KO's are still lower in quality.

I also recommend not supporting the sweatshop lines of morally-questionable Chinese bootleggers.

Long story short, I hit the Buy-It-Now button on what I thought was a Takara E-Hobby reissue Sideswipe still sealed on the insert with the bagged parts. It was only $20 and the buyer didn't seem to know what it was. It was clearly a KO when I got my hands on it, and was reassured of that by others on this site.
