Everytime I ask whether or not I should get this guy, I got some mixed opinions and also negative ones. But I don't get it. He just looks SO cool. What's wrong with him? Because I want to get this guy but I'll be pissed if he's not cool. So what are his downsides? I don't mind the lack of weapons.
Are you talking about the Movie repaint? He's pretty damned awesome. Really sturdy, and barely any kibble. One of the few Movie toys I actually like. Probably still selling him, but I like him regardless.
In what must have been a drunken stupor I bought him off of eBay thinking he was the Best Buy metallic repaint... Best mistake ever, I love him!
I dunno, man, I love him. I wish the back of his head were painted (it's just white plastic, while the front is painted red) but that's about the only negative in my book. He's one of my favorite movie figures. If you like the look of him, take the plunge and get him! If you end up not liking him I'm sure you can make at least some of the cost back by selling him here on the board.
If you end up not liking him I'm sure you can make at least some of the cost back by selling him here on the board. I live in Saudi Arabia, so there goes that. So far the comments have been pushing me to buy this figure.
IMHO...it depends on whether you liked the green Ratchet mold. It's a sturdy toy, with a reasonably solid transformation (unlike Ironhide), and a pretty kibble-free appearance in both modes. I like his size and his proportions, even if he's not terribly articulated -- he can pose okay without looking doofy or falling over. I like the white/red G1-esque color scheme better than a green hummer, since it makes sense for an ambulance... and the paint apps are usually better quality on Rescue Ratchet than Green Ratchet. The downsides? Well, he's not as bendy as some of the other figures, since his waist is locked. His head just swivels from side to side, and his limbs have just pretty basic articulation. His little arm "axe" thing is pretty lame, and his capture claw thing is not so great... but he doesn't really have a lot of real DOWN sides. Ratchet is one of my favorite movie figures, and the Rescue paint job is just all the sweeter. If you can toss a G1-esque head on him, he's even better! See if the gallery at Seibertron helps sway your decision...
Yeah, just going to echo that he's one of the better movie molds and he's definently got a better paint job than the original movie accurate release. It's an awesome figure and it doesn't really have a lot of downsides to it... the worst is that he's only really got basic articulation and his axe arm feature is kind of lame, but if you don't unfold it all the way and leave it so that the sides are still in their upside down v shape... it looks like a blaster a little. All in all... if you like a figure you should go for it. Seriously, don't base your opinion of a toy on others opinions.
I really like this figure/mold. Sturdy, poseable, and the G1 paint scheme is the icing on the cake. I like this one better than the green version. Get him. Get him now!
He's big, he's sturdy, he doesn't have one of those AutoBreak features which ruin the figure (just that little bit on his legs), and at least the rubbish rack/claw thing can store away on his back. My only complaint is he's a little plain and a few more apps in robot mode would've been great.
Only reason I can think of not to like him is if you're one of those "anything bigger than a deluxe should take half an hour to transform" types.
OK, I just got to guy,and I have to admit he's pretty darn cool. Though I have two issues. First of all, this creamy color is border-line depressing. I know that sounds weird, but it's just not good. I wish it was a much brighter shade of white. Just make it white. And second, the mold is just ugly. At least in my opinion. To be honest, I'm thinking working on this guy. Make the white brighter, do something with the head. But I've never modified a figure before. Any tips?
I agree, the white is a little underwhelmingly ivory in places. But if you repaint him white, you may have to replace decals or repaint places where decos got painted over... It may end up costing a lot more time and work than you might initially think, (these sorts of projects always seem to...) so weigh your decision carefully. There are some folks who sell G1-style repro heads for RR, which don't look too terrible on their own, or you can always choose to get some putty and try reshaping the existing head yourself...the important part is to have an idea in your head of how you want the end result to look, and figure out all the steps you need to take, before you start. Really, start by looking at the figure, thinking of what you want to do, and then read up in radicons, or ask some of the helpful customizers there for suggestions how to accomplish what you want. A lot of people have already done extensive Ratchet mods, so they can advise you. If you're willing to put forth the effort, there are lots of friendly, talented folks there who can help you through it.
The movie colored one is much better looking, specially in robot mode, he looks horrible in white and red. It's a fantastic mold though, could have used his gun arm however.
