Well, it actually makes sense as a possible solution to the problem of funding for roads. (It goes along with the old idea of paying for use, like toll roads.) Frankly, I'd just prefer that they raise taxes on gasoline for consumers instead. I really don't like the sound of any sort of tracking device in my car, however non-invasive it is promised to be in practice.

If you want some scary reading, look into OBD3. I was working in a Chevy dealer in the mid 90s when they first started talking about it. You want to talk about paranoia and Big Brother watching fears.

In regard to the article, I just had another thought. What are they planning to do about 18 wheelers?

The Federal Commision is considering asking for a tax increase on gasoline to help build and repair the roads and highways.

But I believe the tax will go to other government programs.

I do not want to have another GPS system placed in my car. I would rather that they would update the gas tax in Oregon rather than this. I know that we need to conserve more with our petroleum but this is nutty. It may also help to pay for repairing the roads. The 18-wheelers are left out of the article. Would they be exempt from this or would they have to be taxed too?
