Devastation was okay. I've never read the source book so please post in here how you enjoyed/disliked it.

I'd say "Poor you", but since you think The Beast was well-executed...

The source book is... interesting. There's some great stuff, and then some really out of place stuff (weird art, weird characterizations). The tpb corrects some of the mistakes, but not all of them. I think the TF wiki has a complete list of what was the matter.

I've had the BW Sourcebook individual issues sat on my desk since it first came out two or three (or however many years it was) back. There's a bookmark about halfway through the first installment and I keep meaning to go back and read the rest, but I still just can't get up the will to bother.
Maybe some distant future from now I'll have utterly nothing to do one day and I'll finally finish reading them.

I actually liked the BW Sourcebook TPB, although it's by no means as good as the DW G1 MTMTE profile books and there are some weird mistakes. Devastation was decent, but I still remember it as the point where the wheels started to fall off Furman's -ation series and it's a significant drop-off in quality from the previous mini-series.

Devastation has a lot of really solid moments, I hope you enjoy it.

Devastation is where IDW started to kinda lose control, but itself is still good. The BW Sourcebook is not that great, though the TPB fixes a lot of issues.

I agree with the Sourcebook being bad. It doesn't help that I prefer my comic books to be plot driven rather than character based.

The way I see it, the problem with Devastation is that it's not a good stand-alone story. Granted, it's supposed to be a continuation of Escalation, but Escalation at least is generally self-contained. You can read issues 1-6 or the TPB and get a clear picture of what it's about. The Spotlights, Stormbringer, and of course Infiltration give Escalation depth and let you know that it occurs in a wider universe, but I don't think they're necessarily MUST-READS for you to have an understanding of the events in Escalation. Devastation on the other hand kind of requires you to have read Spotlight Sixshot, Galvatron, and a few others for you to "get" what's going on and why certain characters appear. Still not a bad book by any means and I prefer it to 99% of what IDW gave us in later years.
