Orci & Kurtzman reveal Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen details | SCI FI Wire

The interview covers some old ground like how Bob and Alex weren't sure about returning to the sequel initially, the 'being away from home' theme, Nimoy and Welker being approached for voices, but it does give an insight into how many of the robots are essentially Stormtroopers: it's just they have to have their own designs and toy names. To them, Demolishor is Wheelbot and Jolt is Volt. The characters they definitely had in the film's treatment before the strike were the Fallen (whom they selected because he was the most 'elemental' villain); Jetfire; Megs; Soundwave; the Constructions; and Arcee. The Twins were 'in-betweeners'.

EDIT: Oh, and they're not sure whether to explain robot gender or not.

Hey, hey. Be nice. How knowledgeable are you about a franchise you're not a big fan of?

pretty good interview, some good info. I dont see the point in having extra characters to have just lying around that we dont get to know though..theres no point so why even have them

So we will get cannon fodder, and said cannon fodder will most likely get toys.

damnit i saw this coming i made a referance to my friends about the transformers movie trilogy beings similar to the first 3 star wars movies.Where the first one introduced familiar characters and gave a lil bit of an insight to what weve already known, and the 2nd movie was about the clone army and the new villians rising leading to the eventual downfall of anakin and the birth of vader and darth sidious. So my take on this is that the movie will probaly have the decepticon army somewhat like the storm troopers as they have already kinda hinted on,But my main question is who leads this army? i mean you have Megatron and The Fallen and Starscream so whos commanding this "Storm tropper" army?

True - but I would be smart enough to do a quick google search before I post something I'm not sure about and risk making myself look like an idiot.

it would have been nice if they could have used a go-between during the strike (no one would have had to know) to get what they wanted done right. Hopefully, there won't be a next time (soon anyway). Next time they do this, they might want to finalize their ideas for characters before submitting anything. Having to live with regret isn't all that fun.

Hmmm...I have enormous respect for Mr Orci making himself available to the denizens of this website; however nothing here changes my opinion that both he and Kurtzman are quite astonishingly poor writers - at least in terms of Transformers. I live in hope that the new film might alter this.

Quotes like "because ... the first movie was so ... tough to find, you know?" just want to make me bang my head against a wall...

Cool. Main cast then background dudes, I can dig. First movie had about twenty-thirty robots, too. Remember that flashback to Cybertron? All them dead guys hanging from teh towers?

Not surprised in the least that most of this "over 40 robots!" cast will be background filler & explosion fodder. Expected it, in fact. Considering they couldn't even develop the so-called MAIN characters from TF1 and considered the two solitary lines of dialogue exchanged between Megatron & Starscream as successfully 'showcasing the same relationship they had in G1', this new batch of characters stood no chance.

I don't know if any body noticed, but the interviewer said the "rumored" names of the Constructicons (Demolishor, High Tower, Long Haul, Mixmaster, Rampage, and Scrapper) and neither Orci nor Kurtzman objected to those names or say that they haven't finalized the names; it looks like that those are the names.

EDIT: Orci also replied with. "That's them."
