Optimus Vs The Fallen & Megatron is still the best fight scene...

While I do like how this fight showed just how vicious Optimus is in a fight, I have to agree with the consensus and say that it's not the best fight. The Bayverse franchise's best fight is undoubtedly the forest fight.

Yup the forest fight is by far the best in the franchise.

I disagree. It's over way too soon for someone who's supposed to be the guy Megatron defers to, and Megatron and the Fallen barely get a hit in. It's pretty much Optimus Prime playing the ROTF video game with all the cheat codes.

I prefer what we got in Last Knight, because we at least weren't lead to believe it was the final time the two main participants in the fight (Optimus and the Fallen in ROTF, Optimus and Megatron in TLK) would meet (and you got the bonus of all the Autobots coming together and fighting Megatron in harmony with each other). Although the TLK fight is shorter, Megatron still puts up more of a fight. He knocks Hound down, shakes Bumblebee off his back, and even after losing his arm, he still manages to pin Optimus. On re-watches, I feel more investment in the TLK fight than the ROTF fight.

That said, the best fight scene in the movies is the Forest Battle, with every participant getting at least a few hits in, and while you do have Optimus Prime kicking butt and growling smack, he isn't invincible and does take damage even before he's killed. Even the hi-and-die character Grindor gets a few shots in. It's an exhilarating fight with a satisfying, though tragic, payoff.

I still get chills from this fight and the full quote

"You'll never stop at one. I'll take you all on"

    And he really does.

    And again later

"Useless piece of tin" or something like that when he destroys grindor

This is probably the truest post I’ve ever seen. The final battle in ROTF was the best final battle. Why? Because it actually shows the robots fight without any human characters getting in the middle of the actual fight.

DOTM, AOE, and TLK all have the human characters doing something during or being right in the middle of the actual fight scenes and it starts to become distracting and confusing when it keeps cutting from the humans to the robots back and forth.

Nah, it's shit. Pyramid explosion that Megatron and the Fallen made absolutely no fucking effort to stop, "Give me your face", "THWARSCPWEEAAM!" and the fallen barfing lava or whatever as he slowly slides down a sweet Egyptian statue of some gal with her titties out are the only decent things about it.

And they're only like. Ironcally decent. Decent in the sense that I went "holy shit" and giggled a little, not, like. Awe inspiring kinda decent.

Optimus vs Sentinel and the oft-lauded Forest Battle™ are the most solid/entertaining of the series, imo.

You do realize the post is about the final battles and not in between battles from the middle of the movie.
Don’t get me wrong I love the forest battle and is probably the greatest fight scene in a transformers movie ever.

This is about the final battles and I’m sorry but, the best final battle was from ROTF. It was simple and to the point without ten thousand and one things going on at once. It was about the transformers fighting and not idiot humans trying to get in the middle of every single shot in the scene.

True, but it does keep cutting from the actual good fight scene to a crappy ass fight scene between Sam and Dylan and by god was that annoying.

Let me tell you why the entire Egypt battle is absolutely heinous and reprehensible bullshit, and why I, a community college arthoe dipshit loser who cuts her own bangs and then regrets it, would make a better Decepticon commander than either ROTF Megatron or fuckin sarcophagus face pyramid-dick.

....First off. The Autobots weren't even necessary. Coulda just aimed that fuckin railgun at the Harvester proper and blown it to fuck then and there. Boom. Movie over. Effects budget saved. You're welcome, Michael Bay.

Second off. The FACT that the Harvester was so vulnerable and so poorly secured/guarded by the Decepticons is absolutely ABSURD. These guys have been fighting a war for... How long? And they have no grasp of defensive strategy?

Air and naval space surrounding the Harvester and the nearby gulf should have been secured. Get Starscream and all other airborn Decepticons on that, Megatron, you lazy assymetrical fuck. PREVENT the humans from wrecking your shit with the aforementioned railgun, incoming airsupport, or ground-forces dispatched to shore from naval vessels. Be capable of alerting anyone else to any human or Autobot forces that make it past you. Boom.

Have Soundwave jamming communications and sabotaging any kind of information exchange surrounding the sun-harvester or movements of Decepticon forces. They can't counterstrike effectively if they can't organize and communicate.

And for fuck's sake, when your arch enemy, the recently ressurected last-living-Prime, flies at you in a macab fucking metal, rocket-powered fat-suit made out of the flayed, disassembled corpse of a former Decepticon officer, maybe make HALF AN IOTA OF AN EFFORT TO BLOW HIS ASS OUT OF THE AIR WITH THE NUMEROUS ADVANCED PROJECTILE WEAPONS SYSTEMS AT YOUR DISPOSAL!!

What the FUCK?!? Where even was STARSCREAM during that whole situation? Not doing anything useful, that's for fucking sure! Maybe he doesn't make an effort because he's secretly the only self-aware motherfucker in the entire Decepticon faction, and is privately extremely depressed and de-motivated by his faction's incompetance, so when he saw his superiors making a botch of the Sun Harvester operation, he just threw his clawed twink hands up and went "aight. I give up. Y'all just go nuts. I'll just be over here taking potshots at the comedy relief characters like some kind of shitfaced Appalachia hillbilly firing a pellet-gun at raccoons in the dark, and then maybe later I'll chase Shia Lebouf through some sandstone buildings and punch one, if I'm feeling up to it". Because I mean. That's what I'd do if my bosses sucked that fucking bad.

The whole goddamn situation and series of scenes leading up to the final confrontation is just. Such a goddamn travesty it makes my brain BSOD. And thus it sucks wind, completely independant of any framing shortcomings or absences of substance present in the (admittedly very short and underwhelming) battle itself.

...And that's why Optimus vs Sentinel is best final scene, even if it did get interrupted by various miscellaneous bullshit.

It was a better fight overall, and the lead-up and situational framing preceding and surrounding it didn't suck as much as the black fucking hole that ate half of Cybertron when Bumblebee tackled the pillar.

I stand by my opinions and I don’t need to make a jackass out of myself to do it.

If you want to debate me that’s fine, but if your going to be a dick about it I will not answer you.

The Optimus vs Sentnel fight and Optimus vs Lockodown fight were good, but they keep cutting back and forth between what most the human characters were doing and it gets in the way of a good fight. Show me the actual fight scene and stop cutting to the forced in human characters during the fight.

Sam vs Dylan was fucking stupid and putting Cade, Tessa, Shane, and Bumblebee in the Optimus vs Lockdown fight was even more fucking stupid and made the fight scene look completely ridiculous.

That’s why I love the final battle in ROTF, because it was just Autobot vs Decepticon without any interruptions from the other characters. Optimus was awesome and showed why he’s as powerful as he is in the movie universe.

I do realize some of you will disagree with me and understand why, but I think personally this was just a better final fight scene.

Oh gosh. Please take my rants to heart about as much as the movies I pan in them, because I put about as much genuine vitriol into them as Michael Bay puts thought into his films.

Oh yeah! Optimus VS Sentinel was neat because, while the focus of the fight was the two Primes (and both taking hits), you did have other characters helping Optimus out when he needed it. The sequence where the other Autobots attack Sentinel has some gems like Sentinel throwing Sideswipe and Bumblebee transforming to alt mode and back again to avoid a hit from Sentinel's blade. I also find myself surprisingly okay with the POV shot of a soldier shooting at Sentinel. While the destruction of the two villains is presented in a questionable way, one could make the case that Optimus Prime is executing two enemies who have proven themselves to be treacherous and untrustworthy.

Really, the only downside is cutting to Sam and Dylan. They really could have had that whole scene before the fight with Sentinel, or just cut it entirely and had a shot of Dylan being escorted away in handcuffs, and we could appreciate the fight as it is a lot more. I suppose it does give something of a cap to Sam's arc in the movie, but it does feel a bit out of place and unnecessary when Sam already killed Starscream. That's a bit more impressive than killing off some guy.

Truthfully, I think Dark of the Moon could actually have been a genuinely solid film if they cut the Sam finding a job scenes and opened his arc with him at his new job. (I'd also cut the scenes with Sam's parents, as they add nothing and in one case, disrupt the emotions the audience is supposed to feel upon seeing Ironhide bite the rust.)

All accounts seem to indicate the final battle in ROTF being changed/completed very last minute.
They went through big revisions, like one version had Optimus reveal that the Fallen was playing Megatron like a sucker, and Megatron would willingly abandon the Fallen before the fight was over. I also don't think they ever had a clear idea of what they wanted to do with the Fallen's powers.

It's clear time ran out, and they had to make a quick sloppy final fight. When even Bay apologizes for it, you know that's a bad sign.
