I'll make some test models out of paper. Rev Optimus is 14cm tall. I'm thinking the shield could be 8 or 10cm tall. Will post pictures soon. Also are you gonna get the revoltech optimus Prime DX?
edit: I made them and took some photos :p
I think I'll have to make a 9cm version. 8cm looks too small and 10 too large.

    The 8cm tall shield:

    The 10 cm tall shield:

OK cool that helps. Wow I didn't realize he was that small, my shield is almost 12cm tall.

No I don't plan on getting any of the Revoltech figures. I like my Transformers to... transform, personally.

Small update, I received the new shield proto today. It's awesome. I'll post pics tomorrow, I need to get a new card reader. I accidentally ordered WSF Polished which is actually pretty nice, however the moving parts are a bit looser than I'd care for. Perhaps that will allow me to be more liberal with paint and sealant.

The gun had a problem and I was informed it was unprintable. Shapeways has held payment for that item captive and I had to ask them why I haven't received a refund or credit for it. They used to be really good at this, now it seems to be hit or miss. I guess that means they're growing. Still, I'm not ordering another print that I've already paid for.

I'm still at least 4 weeks away from having my own printer.

Here are pics of the latest shield proto. I'm really happy with it. This was printed in WSF Polished which looks and feels pretty good, but I just wouldn't recommend it because of the gears for the folding mechanism.

Let me know what you guys think!

hehe thanks, yeah I've left both available and leave it to whomever orders to make that decision. Personally I think the polished is just too loose.

Thank you. Actually I've not even thought about trying to store it anywhere on the tractor itself. I'm still plugging away at the full trailer and that was the only intent I had. I'm open to suggestions if you can think of a way to attach/store directly to Optimus. I guess as a fast example I could make a holder that secures to the back end, though I don't know how that would look exactly.

Well, you can either put it inside the trailer, which is where OP pulled it from in the Movie, or you can make it part of the trailer... Like the roof of sorts.

Yes, inside the trailer has been the plan. The trailer actually has three shields.

On a related note, the new, larger cannon is in and it's pretty sweet and available now.

    Thanks!

    Thank you. For price...

Yeah I'm REALLY happy with the larger version. I thought I liked the smaller one but this one really means business. When the printer comes in I'll see if I can offer a cheaper version directly.

Right on, well it's up now and I may be able to offer a printed one myself soon.

The leadfoot missiles are for a WIP I'm doing to convert HA Leadfoot to the weaponized (whatever it's called) mode shown in the movie. I got a test print back and it had issues so at the moment I'm waiting on my printer before I proto it again. The roundness of the fender wasn't the same angle and the ball joint snapped for being too small.

My goal for my shelf is to have Optimus with trailer and 3 HA wreckers. I got a 1:25 scale Lowe's #48 model kit for Topspin. It's a bit too large so I'll use what I can and at least pull the decals.

Looking forward to this! Will these pieces be removable, or will they be permanent attachments?

They will be removable fender pieces that are complete fender replacements.

    Glad you like. :)

Modeled this today just to see what it could look like. This is one of the oddest shapes I've ever tried to model. It feels chunky but it was quick and it's also based on the printing parameters of Shapeways. This is about 13mm long so it should be about in scale with leader Optimus. Instead of the Matrix of Leadership we got lights and a voice box. Meh.

Here's something I'd like you to consider for your future projects Big Hache:

It's the revoltech Optimus Jetpack. Notice how the modular design allows the jetpack to be used as a shield in one of the pictures.

I know you're going for movie accuracy right now but I'd love something like this later on for Leader Optimus or the Battle Blades voyager.
