I don't know if this was brought up already in a separate thread or mentioned in a post (just let me know if it was), but for big bot like Optimus, his hands are a little undersized and flat (like fettuccine). I was watching the slugfest he had with Megatron a few times, and it felt uneasy that OP was punching with hands like those (regardless of the hits and damage he was making). I just thought that the movie-version hands were just right for his build, or something close.

 

In general, Optimus' hands feel wrong. Every other bot has hands that actually have some form to them, while Optimus has these awkward-looking plates and hinges.

 

Somehow, I think June Darby doesn't mind....  

 

Yeah the hands are kinda weird for him, Bumblebee got the same kind of hands but they look good on him. It's a good thing you'll be able to hide them in the toy since he got a sword and a gun!

His hands are spindly and gross and I cringed during the hand scene in the Arctic in Scrapheap. And when he was pointing in Masters And Students. Srsly.

 

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing; they seem one-dimensional to me, almost too flat, and their knuckles are practically nonexistent. It would be better if his hands were thicker, to match their width and length, and if he had armor covering for his knuckle joints, making his hands look massive to match the rest of him (though they really should bulk up everything from his abdomen down to his knees to match as well). As it stands, he looks like he had his hands run over.

 

Ehh... I don't think it's that his hands are too small, it's more that he's very broad-shouldered and his arms are very wide. It makes his hands look small in comparison. They are very flat, though.

For those who've never taken a good look at Optimus and Bumblebee's hands before:

I wonder what the reasoning was for making his hands look like that. Just about everyone else gets normal-looking hands, why not Prime?

 

I think it's just that the design didn't translate very well from 2D to 3D since when you think about it his hand is probably the usual ACTION CARTOON SIMPLIFIED HAND design.

I just noticed that his hands also look like tank treads.

If Optimus can land mean punches with those hands, imagine what his SLAPS would feel like...

 

if exodus is anything to go by, he had librarian hands way back when. perhaps that has something to do with it lol

 

I've always thought Optimus's proportions looked awkward, but I've never noticed his hands looking so off.
