Anyone out there like working on models? Heard of G-System? They make super-uber-fancy Gundam models and are really well known in the hardcore modeling comunity as expensive, yet extremely detailed kit makers. They are currently working on a new kit for their first Transformers item: a 1/12 scale model of Movie Optimus Prime's head. They are not to the stage of having a price yet, or even a part count, but it's being developed.

This is exciting for two reasons. First, it looks like an extremely detailed and accurate sculpt. Second, a lot of times G System will make the head model, then a few months or possibly years later release a full model if the head was successful financially for them.

What they produce is resin models, so it's not going to be your typical colored plastic snap kit, and will require a lot of work to get to the "looking good" stage, but it's an exciting development to see any Transformers based product being put out by a model company that's known for producing several hundred dollar Gundam kits.

For an idea of the type of things G-System is known for, scroll down their home page.

...Holy shit. That's gonna cost a fair bit, but it looks beautiful. I wonder if the facemask will be optional.

Judging by the price of their detailed Gundam head models, I'd say we'll be in for about $150 US unfinished, or about $350 US finished from them, which'll come a few months after release. Don't quote me on that, because it may be more or less, but that's a rather cozy fit with their Gundam heads' prices.

Oh, and as to your question, knowing them, the details will exist under the facemask to where if you're building the kit, you'll be able to decide whether you leave the facemask off or not.

EDIT: Had to remove the pictures mirrors. Seems my server got killed dead from the traffic.

I see a bit of roughness there yet, but don't know if that's intentional to signify the "battle damage" of the movie model. If I had to guess, I'd say those eyes will end up being LED lit clear panels. That seems to be what they do with their Gundam heads too.

Wow, but I think they made his lashes a bit too thick - I've re-viewed the screenshot. Doesn't seem to be soo thick, maybe they used an earlier Procter model.

They're still working on it. Having watched them develop their Gundam models, they've still got a little ways to go and may thin-out the "lashes" before they finish. I know they've still got several details to get in on the sides of his "ears" as well as small details around the eyes not being quite right yet.

Excellent work. I forgot how sincere Prime looks in the film.
