does eneybody wish that g1 prime did not die in the first movie i know i do
As much as I was shocked to see it, I can't imagine the film in any other way.
Its what makes it such a turning point. The makers didn't realise what they were doing was creating a huge swivel point, a fork in the road for TF fans.
If you watch the extras and listen to the commentary on the new DVD its explained that apparently they had no idea he was so 'idolised' and that became evident when the film opened. It suffered greatly from Prime's death - people walked out and as word got round people didn't see it. Kids cried and so forth.
They've been making up for it ever since, thoug, with new Primes constantly appearing out of the woodwork in various generations and stories - notice there's no such thing with Rodimus Prime happening.
Oh Yes. I also think ball joints ruined Transformers forever.
i cried when i saw him die in the theaters. i was like 5 or 6.
i didnt remember much of the rest of the movie due to being in nearly catatonic shock. (think cameron from ferris bueller's day off)
about a year later when i rented it on VHS i cried again.
but i really do think thats what made the movie such a monumental moment in TF history/lore.
yeah... to this day i still get choked up.
Optimus I Hated Killing him off also The Great ironhide he Rocked Right
While it was sad and moving, I liked what it did for the story. I was more fearful Jazz or Bumblebee were going to die (who are two of my favorite characters). Thank goodness they didn't! Come to think of it all my most favorite characters (except Starscream and Thundercracker) survived to movie. And I liked most of the new characters too (especially Hot Rod/Rodimus), so while I was shocked by all the good characters they killed off, I didn't cry and I wasn't "traumatized." Op's death for me is up there with Spock for one of the best movie deaths ever. Heck, the reation to Op's death from fans was like the outrage Trekers had to Spock. Boy, those Hasbro guys really had no idea what they had done. "They're just toys, no one will care if we kill a few." Yeah right, live and learn.
Optimus was boring me they needed something different, but people can't take change not even in a damn cartoon it's sad.
My little brother was about 4 or 5 when we first saw the movie, and his universe came crashing down completly in one weekend... Being a kid in the 80's there were 2 things he idolized: Hulk Hogan and Optimus Prime. Wel that particular weekend, we watched WWF's Saturday Night's Main Event, and the Main Event was The WWF Champion Hulk Hogan Vs Andre The Giant w/ The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Well with the Help of Ted DiBiase Andre won and took the Championship... My Brother cried for the whole night. Then we rented TFTM all was going well until Prime bit it. He cried some more. I lauged at him (I was 7). Little Tony was depressed all week and I'm not totally sure he's ever recovered from this trauma.
I Still laugh about it to this day
Rodimus Prime is one of my favorite Transformer characters ever. I'm glad Optimus died and I wish he'd stayed dead.
i was 6 years old when i first saw the Transformers movie.
i remember that i cried when i saw Optimmus Prime die..
It didn't bother me that Ops died. But it bothers/bothered me that Magnus gets the hatred he doesn't deserve.
:: comforts onesock :: They were just trying to show that even though Ultra Magnus was a great soldier he didn't have what it took to be supreme commander. But he was a good soldier there
Of course, when u talk bout Transformers, the only one EVERYONE knows is Optimus Prime. Thats why he "reincarantes" in every toyline too......
For me it was just a shock, but otherwise i think it`s ridicilous (spelled right???) how often Prime went to life again.......
are you guys telling me Optimus Prime died
when did this happen
is it too late to attend the funeral
WHY DO THE GOOD DIE YOUNG???
When I first saw Optimus die, I did cry as a little kid but it did make you realize that war does indeed have consequences and the good guys don't always make it out alive. I just felt they dropped the ball by not having more of the old, major characters that did survive from the first two seasons interact with the new characters.
The Season 3 producers really shot themselves in the foot on Casey Kasem over Carbombya (why the f*** would you do that) and thus no Cliffjumper or Bluestreak. Scatman Crothers died so no Jazz. There was no interaction at all with Sunstreaker, Hound, Sideswipe, Trailbreaker (who was supposed to die but didn't), Red Alert (same as TB), Inferno, Grapple, Mirage, Hoist, Skids (but he never got much of anything in the show), and a few others, which is what I liked about the comics.
While I agree that today's TFs rely too much on ball joints, they've been around in Transformers since G1 Astrotrain who has ball joints in his shoulders. Albeit they aren't good ball joints as the arms tended to flop around but they were still there.
Yeah, that sucked, IMO. Season 3 may have been more enjoyable with Optimus in it throughout the duration, and not just at the end.
I think the death of Optimus Prime in the Movie was the death knell for G1. By the time of TROOP it was too late to make any difference. Most of the G1 fan base had already moved on. It's always bothered me that the guy that got Optimus Prime killed ended up as leader of the Autobots.
"This is all your fault Rodimus!" "Give me back that f**king Matrix right now Hot Rod!"
I can barely remember 6 weeks ago. And I sure as heck can't remember whether or not I cried. Even at 6 even if I liked to prentend to transform like Optimus. I knew it was just a cartoon. Besides that was 1 scene in probably a dozen animated movies I saw that year
Don't really like that they brought him back in TROP though. I mean honestly if you're going to bring him back at least make it good. Like some enemy that Optimus fought and defeated in the old days has returned or something. Rodimus could've easily gone into the Matrix, found out the cure and release the energy himself.
Dark Awakening was well done though, animation aside it was a very cool episode. And it would've been better if that episode was Optimus' final appearance in the show
TFTM was truly the deconstruction of the franchise. Killing off the old characters was really pointless. It was obvious they wanted to move the focus to Cybertron, and a different group of characters. It would have made a lot more sense to have Optimus assign a team to go to Cybertron, and take the fight to the Decepticons. The movie could have been about Hot Rod proving he had good leadership instincts, being upgraded to Rodimus, and been given the title of Prime, to lead all the Autobots on Cybertron.
I think a lot of kids would have had much less trouble with the changing of the gaurds, if they killed off the old guards first.
