The whole purpose behind me starting this fur test in the first place was to try to get IDW to let me do a cover for the comic.

They told me that Hasbro didn't want any CGI in their comics though to prevent some kind of confusion. I'm not sure how true that is but that's what they told me.

More fools them, then. If you ever get the opportunity to finish Primal, maybe you should put together a comic cover regardless, show 'em what they're missing! :thumb

The fur looks so soft and cuddly.. :)

That is AWESOME, though. I wish I had those kinds of skills. Keep up the great work.

Primus, those renders look fantastic! And I really like the fur texturing on this one, pretty realistic IMO!

Thats kinda what I thought. Fur doesn't look coarse enough for a primate.

I was tinkering around with the fur again. I really like it like this. It may be a little too gray but I should be able to fix it.

May need divx for the avi file.

The other Optimus Primal thread made me think of this old model I was working on. I'd really love to finish this up. Unfortunately I haven't done any modeling in well over a year :(  I really like the direction this model was taking but the fur was a pain in the @$$ to manage.

Procedural maps almost never look like we imagine they should. You'd have had better luck with a UVW Unwrap.

@First Post: Nice fur, though it is clipping through the model. For how powerful home computers are, you found a good middle ground between detail and what your computer can reasonably do. However, Primal's head is a bit too flat. Did you use 3Ds Max?

This just looks unbelievably good. Although of course there should be no fur on the inside :p

Cool. I don't like Optimus Primal and his looks. But your model is done greatly. Very detailled!

You did a really good job on those lips, Primus. Can you show the wirefram for the mouth, smoothed and unsmoothed?

Thanks. Yeah, I used 3DS Max.

Good point. I can't remember why I did that. I think I was using some DON art as a guide, but it was 5 years ago!

Thanks again! Makoto Ono really helped me with instructions on the lips, as I recall. he did some great wireframe posts of his Arcee model that helped as a guide. As for me posting wireframes, I don't think I even have the software installed on my computer. If I do I might open this beast back up and post a wireframe shot of the mouth.

Autodesk offers a student program where they offer their software for free. I think it might be a 6 month license or something. Anyway, they don't mean "student" as a person who is enrolled in college, they mean it as someone who wants to learn the software, so anyone can participate.

Everyone knows that Optimus Primal was a very clear gorilla. It was hard enough getting that effect. I can't imagine trying to get his fur looking nappy and stanky :p

Makes sense, now that you mention it. But this looks like Masterpiece Optimus Primal I'd love to own. I hope to see the whole body done this way :)
