    ... but Megatron weaker.

Many people complain that Optimus is too strong in ROTF and DOTM, seeing how he takes out Megatron and pretty much all other Decepticons out with ease.

Many people forget, however, that he also killed Bonecrusher in TF1 with the same ease Optimus killed all the other Decepticons in ROTF and DOTM.
I do not denie that he got alittle stronger, seeing how he got upgrades, jetfires parts and the matrix, but thats not the point. There are only three Enemies that could overpowere Optimus: The Fallen, Megatron and Sentinel Prime.

The Fallen fight is a bad source for reference, seeing how Optimus had Jetfires parts (people seem also to forget that a simple stomp from the Fallen could take out Optimus before he got his Jetfires parts, so we can assume that the Fallen was alot stronger than Optimus).
And the Sentinel Fight was pretty even.

So the only reference we have regarding the strengh of Optimus is vs Megatron.

Many people wonder why Megatron could defeat Optimus so easily in TF1, but couldnt in the other movies. So they think Optimus got stronger (or another explanation: Optimus hold back). But i think its much simpler than that. Megatron was indeed much stronger in TF1. Just look at his perfect body in TF1: Undamaged, huge, a killing machine. Just the fact alone that the other Autobots didnt even attempt to fight him says alot (Exept for Jazz, but he was killed in one hit). However, the Autobots had no fear attacking him in ROTF. Even the US Army could overpowere Megatron in ROTF.

Back then, Megatron was playing in an completely different league than any other Transformer alive. We can assume that he even was superior to Sentinel back then. Ever wondered how the Decepticons could so easily win the war? Because they had Megatron as their leader.

But people forget something: He died in TF1. Megatron died in TF1.

Sure, he was ressurected, but lets really look at this:
In order to be ressurected, he needed replacement parts from a much weaker Decepticon. They basically rebuild his body from parts of weaker Decepticons, which in my opinion, is the main reason Megatron got so much weaker.
Also, his rebuild body wasnt nearly as perfect as his old one: One arm was bigger then the other and overall it looked clumsy. Also, he lived eons with his old body. He completely knew what he was capable of. But not with the new body.

And lets not even talk about his condition in DOTM. Bumblebee could have ripped Megatron apart.

So in conclusion: Optimus did not get that much stronger: Megatron just got THAT much weaker.

    That makes sense, actually.

But in the end, he was not that weak, ask Sentinel and he'll tell you.

I think if I got snuck up on behind and had part of my chest ripped out, I'm not gonna have a chance, regardless if its a weakened megs or not.

Ties into what some people said in regards to renders of his DOTM robot mode. Described him as looking like he was on the edge of falling apart, with the chains practically holding him together.

And it gives credit to the "lackluster" explanation provided by the DOTM game for the truck mode: Megatron couldn't transform as his body was failing him. He needed a new body, and so grabbed the best one he could find.

Not only did Megs get weaker, even Starscream was a pushover. What happened to the deadly Decepticon who swooped down from the sky and trashed Ironhide and Ratchet up close? Or remember Brawl, who fought Ironhide, Jazz, Ratchet and the military, before he was finally taken down by Bumblebee? After the first Movie, the Decepticons seem to be missing real badasses. Not even Soundwave stood a chance against Bumblebee, and if I'm not mistaken, he took on at least one other Decepticon as well.

Also, this would explain him just lying there in the alley at the end of the movie. He's a tired soldier and to finally see one of his plans come together was relief for him. So, he just sat there and watched his home-world be saved, but the realization of his power-loss (fueled by Carly) enraged him enough to give as much energy as he could to back-stab Sentinel. That also adds validity to Optimus being able to kill him with one arm. He was tired and was caught off guard.

I think megatron in DOTM was more balanced, he was not weak in terms of physical strength, all he lost was the ability to fly, he no longer had the ability to change weapons with his arms and his damaged skull was a downer. But what megatron never lost in DOTM, was his physical strength. His manhandling of sentinal proved one thing, he still has the ability to tear his enemy's apart with his bear hands. I think we got the megatron from the first film, in terms of his ability to fight with both arms

Optimus didn't get stronger nor did Megatron get weaker. I thinking Optimus gained a more "not-fucking-around" attitude.

I always assumed Starscream was the best pilot in the history of the Transformers, death from up above in the form of a ten-foot tall robot, but in the ground? Not so much.

    Brawl died.

That whole "Decepticons became weaker" thing worked lke that to me: In the first movie, Starscream brougth the best of the best to free Megatron, high-ranking Decepticons, specialist in their areas [Blackout, Bonecrusher, Barricade, etcetera] and stuff.

On ROTF, with the elite dead, SS brougth the random soldiers, going by the "quantity over quality" logic [notice that they still caused damage though, killing the Arcee Triplets and Jetfire].

On DOTM, there were both random soldiers and more high-ranking Decepticons [Barriade, The Dreads, Soundwave, SS himself].

It begs notice that they almost WON in DOTM [they had all the Autobots except Optimus captured, if weren't by Wheelie and Brains taking down the Mothership, everyone would be dead as a doorknob now].

About Soundwave, I think he was better as a Hacker than as a fighter [and best as a long-range operator than a field agent].

I know, it was just an example of a badass Decepticon.

We just don't really see how suddenly all Autobots get captured and Optimus hanging in the cables was just bollocks. He had arm blades and the wires wouldn't have been able to carry his weight anyway.

A good point well made by the OP. Plus its gotta take a bit out of Megs mentally to have been so close to winning in the previous two films and to fall at the last hurdle.

It was telling when Megs had something to fight for (pride, maintain his leadership role) he took out Sentinel in TF1 Megatron style

When you think about it, megatron we can say was the one who brought the destruction of the decepticons, has he stopped sentinal from killing optimus prime

Excellent point on Megs getting weaker.

To me strength and weakness often seems random. Blackout single handedly took out an entire Airforce base, you'd think he would survive from a few missle attacks and a guy shooting recklessly from a bike. The army men couldn't even finish Scorponok no matter how hard they try, then a few years later these guys murdered Barricade in 3 seconds, and damaged Shockwave to near death.

Speaking of Scorponok, the army men group attack did nothing. They called in A-10s, Scorponok survived the attack. Finally gunship came with huge explosive shells, only to get a piece of the tail. Rifles and nades don't kill a Con, at least in TFTM.

So, in DOTM, it's not just Megs getting weaker, the other Cons are weak too, getting killed by riflemen. Maybe the Cons are low on Energons, and the humans are high on Michael Bay.

The fact we don't see them being captured doesn't change the fact THEY WERE Captured [besides, there were time constraints].
The 'Cons were two inches away from destroying all of the Autobot Forces except for Optimus, had Wheelie and Brains taken two seconds more to take down that Mothership, BB would be a headless robot lying on the ground dead.

My point is: Offscreen, the Decepticons defeated Ratchet, The Wreckers, BB, WheeljaQ and Dino/Mirage, isn't that badass?

About his swords, I think the cables wrapped around his arms too, I don't think he could cut the cables.
On the weigth, I don't know, aren't these cables the ones who carry those giant metal pieces around when a building is being built?

EDIT: ^Dude, Humans were using TF-weaponry on DOTM, when they kill Barricade and SS, techinically isn't HUMANS who are killing those two, is WheeljaQ's weaponry.

Actually, one of his arms was free. And he was already trying to get out himself. Guess he's too weak to even rip cables apart by himself.

That arm was damaged by Shockwave's attack, thus why that arm got ripped off by Sentinel.

    Problem solved!

Except, it was his left arm that was free.
