How many of you have purchased AFA boxed figures and opened them up?
I've only done this once when I purchased my black MIB Kaltor a few years ago. It was a pain in the ass to open the plexiglass box, but it was worth it for the figure inside.

I'm thinking of purchasing a loose AFA Diaclone on ebay and was wondering about opening it up as well. It look's like it's packaged much tighter and more complex than the simple box that the MIB Kaltor was in. It was still sealed in it's original manufacturers box card and loose inside the AFA plexiglass box.

I'm wondering if opening up the AFA box might damage the loose Diaclone inside. Any thoughts to this?

I recommend a Dremel. Opened up an AFA Squalktalk/Beastbox a couple of years ago, had been looking for a MOSC set and found the AFA one for a good price. It was rather enjoyable :D

Pay a 400% markup for the package grading and then open it?
Not sure why that would make any sense at all.

I don't believe in plastic prisons. I find the toy's more fun to enjoy when out in the open. Plus, it's the only way to get them in the condition that I want. Otherwise, you buy a cheap one and it's all scratched, nicked, chrome-faded, missing parts, etc.
The other idea was to find a way to mount it on the wall as is.

If you want to be sure of a good quality fig and a loose AFA is the cheapest option available at the time, it does make sense.

I agree with Seali-Me. I want to see it. :lol

Use some screws and anchors and hang a small pieces of Plexi glass on the wall then use Double sided sticky tape to hang the box to the plexi glass. (the plexi glass is so you dont ruin your walls with the industrial double sided tape.)

For opening an AFA box, I would suggest a hatchet. Or a lump hammer.

I can't imagine having enough money to make an AFA purchase, let alone buy one to open it up. I understand the logic in doing so, though. I guess if one has the money to play with, more power to them :thumb

As for actually cracking the cases open, I think there are already some good suggestions in the thread for doing so.
