Went to McD's today because I wanted to grab a TF: Animated toy to add to my collection. My 2 year old daughter Madison was there as well and she wanted one too(she loves TF's, probably thanks a lot to me) The woman at the register asks Madison if she would like a girl toy instead and Maddie replies "No, I want a Transformer!" Maddie immediately recognizes her toy as Optimus Prime, and names all the other TF's on the bag. Later on I think was the moment I loved most, she walked out with her Optimus and transformed him all by herself, I think I actually felt a tear roll down my cheek. It brought me back 20-some odd years ago when I held my original G1 Prime for the first time. Being a parent is great!! Thanks for reading...

Yeah tell me about it, my son LOVES Bumblebee and Optimus! He's 3 years old.

He knows saturday is Transformers cartoon day, when we are "hunting" for new figs he sees Bumblebee and Prime and always says "Daddy I got that Bumblebee and Optimus at home!"

    Yeah kids are fantastic!

We were at my buddy's 30th bday party and I brought my son and when one of my other friend's asked how old he was and random questions it went exactly like this:

"Hey your the little guy your Daddy talks about all the time, your Daddy loves you very much! How old are you now?"

    ""I'm 3!"" *holds up 3 fingers*

    "Who's your favorite hero?"

""Spider-Man, and my Daddy like Superman!""

"Do you like transformers like your daddy?"

""YEAH! I like Bumblebee and my Daddy loves Optimus Prime!""

    *sniff* I'm so proud!

That's great, bro. I know the feeling, I'll be 32 this year and while I don't have kids of my own yet (still hashing that one out with my fiancee), I do have a 6-year-old niece and a 8-year-old nephew (he'll be 8 in August). If you simply ask them what I like more than anything (other than my fiancee), they quickly shout, TRANSFORMERS! lol

I've been teaching them the ways of the Transformers since they were in a playpen bouncing up and down and making googly noises. A few years ago, I gave them my entire VHS collection of Transformers (some of the Rhino stuff and the older stuff I got when I was a bit younger--along with some I videotaped back in the day). To this day, they LOVE Transformers, both the toys and the shows. My nephew is big on the old school Dinobots (especially Grimlock) and my niece thinks Bumblebee is cute (both the old school BB and the Animated one). My nephew loves getting some of the toys and playing with them--I gave him his first ever Transformer........G1 Sideswipe! His most recent one I got for him was Classics Grimlock. He's looking forward to a few of the Animated toys and the Universe Classics. Recently, we sat and watched Transformers: The Movie (animated)--which I saw when I was about 10 years old--he loved every minute of it (but he got pissed when Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Prowl died). He laughed when Galvatron killed Starscream. lol

It's a little harder to keep the niece interested in them, since she loves the girly stuff, but she's still a fan. Even if I never have kids of my own, this has been great sharing this stuff with my niece and nephew--they have the same enthusiasm I had as a kid for the Transformers. They both LOVED the live-action TF movie and are looking forward to TF2.

Thanks for sharing the story, bro. Good read!

Damn sentimental stuff in this topic, I love it. Can imagine how good that must feel.

Can't wait to get my nephew (he turned 1 some months back) onto Transformers myself.

Love it. Kids with taste (in toys, if not food). :D

Not like the days when I'd be standing in the shop looking at TFs, and some kid would bestanding next to me espousing to his mum how awesome Beyblade is... :p

    Oh, yeah. Awwwwwwwwww. :D

Makes me look forward to having kids someday. Love it.

Of course, there will still be that "These are Daddy's Binaltechs in the display case, and one day they'll be yours... But for now, yours are these."

I told my wife about the Happy Meal toys so she took the kids there yesterday. My son (5) chose Optimus (I think he said he wanted Megatron, but they said they were out....sounds like they were also out of Lugnut). My daughter (3.5) actually chose one of the "girl" toys, but they didn't have the one she wanted so she said "Fine, then I want a Transformer". My son got the last Prime so she chose Bumblebee.

Fun little toys. They were very excited to show them to me and show me how they could transform them all by themselves. They are also a little bummed that we watched our last new Animated episode for a while (they don't yet understand "seasons"!).

I think it says something about our generation, the new kids' media, and the younger generation that parents are sitting down to watch cartoons with their kids, and that adults are getting excited about happy meal toy campaigns. Perhaps the appreciation is on different levels, but it's not something my parents understand, and it's not something their generation would have done. My parents watched cartoons with me, but it was for my sake, not because they enjoyed them.

Maybe society sees this as a "dumbing down" trend that comics, video games, toys, and cartoons have"grown up" with our generation. Maybe we did, in some Peter Pan way, refuse to outgrow our toys. On the other hand, what new and exciting doors will be opened by kids having such new, more open channels to relate to their parents?

Will they be more receptive to the lessons we have for them? And are we, as the new adults, finally "mature" enough to tell fiction from reality and not be scared to enjoy either for fear of getting them confused?

Didn't mean to get all deep, but I don't mind the trend.

I don't have any kids yet, but whenever I'm at Target and other stores and kids are looking for toys I wait till they pick up a Transformer and say "yeah Transformers". The parents always laugh at first, then are shocked when I start taking about Transformers to their child. I'm not that old yet! They usually end up buying the Transformer. As do I lol.
