As a Gurkha in the British Army, according to wikipedia at least, he remains eligible for the Victoria Cross. Furthermore, when I look up 'Gurkha' in any dictionary published within the Commonwealth, this is what I want to see: /ˈgɜrkə, ˈgʊər-/ Show Spelled [gur-kuh, goor-] Show IPA –noun, plural -khas, ( especially collectively ) -kha. 1. Nepalese word for 'badass mother fucker' Everytime I read about these amazing men, I start feeling less like a man and more like bacteria. By the sounds of it, yes this man should have recieved the Victoria Cross.
Surprisedhe can walk with the weight of his balls of steel. i salute this man and agree she should have gotten a VC then again I believe the VC is awarded posthumously far more often than to the living,
You may be right. This story reminded me of a World War I ace I read about a while back. William G. Barker, VC This guy faced 60 enemy fighters....all by himself and lived. But according to the records, this guy had been awarded medals previously for his bravery...so maybe to be awarded the VC, similar conditions have to be met? I don't know. But still that guy the OP posted is a bad ass.
The Victoria Cross has an unofficial qualifier. The nominee being dead, that is dying in the action that got them nominated for an award. Has been since WW2.
I used to think the Medal of Honor was the same way. But I guess that wasn't the case as of recent. I wonder though, if there will be another VC awarded in the future to someone non-posthumously. I can only imagine the level of bad-assery this individual would have to have......considering the guy in the article got an award second only to the VC.
He's a ghurkha. I'll bet the reason he didn't get a VC is that for Ghukhas the bar is so much higher - this shit is par for the course for these badasses. Seriously, those guys rock. (He still should've got one.)
That guy is insane. Literally insane. He should have gotten the VC. Shows you the incredible perserverance of the human will to survive.
And he saved others from getting killed, whilest being wounded himself. Which is why he got a VC despite still breathing on regular basis. Look over a list of those 13 VC handed out since WW2. The ones who died pulling off something like Corporal Pun did got a VC.
