Thanks. I like his arms, Lol, BUT, I did consider the potential to design some new arms with hands. I really liked the idea that the Master Made (i think that's what it's called) team came up with for their mini Omega. He had arms that could be hands or the traditional claw and gun. So, I am considering giving that a go.
He just keeps getting better and better. And it's just things you're adding that the original should've or probably should've already had and fixing the proportions. That added mass really makes him so much more stronger now.
In the final stages of this project now. This update is for the connector pieces that attach to the back of the legs. In base mode, these connect the leg track pieces together. I also managed to finish the design for the last 2 track pieces. These were a bit tricky to get right because they need to fit inside the other 2 track pieces in robot mode. The designs worked out in Tinkercad and the first piece I printed seemed to work. Then I ran out of print material. New spool should be arriving today via Amazon Hoping by the end of this week, Omega should have all his parts.
Last track pieces done. Hurrah. Not without drama though. Thought I was finished and then I broke one of the pieces That sucked... I had to reprint it. Anyway, I managed to get it all done and everything fits together perfectly. So, the framework is complete. I will transform him into base mode over the weekend to see how that all works out. Next job is painting...which I’m not really that excited about because he’s such a big figure, but oh well.... As an aside, I did start tinkering with the design for what might turn out to be my next project last night....
Duder, your commitment this project inspires me to get back to unfinished bashes I have. This is a Classics Omega we all would love to own.
As much as I love this whole idea and how its been going, I gotta say those tracks on his back look WAY too big in my opinion.
Fair point. They are pretty big. I wanted to create a large base and really add some size to the figure. That, i believe I have achieved I’m going to see how the base looks when I transform him tomorrow. If I think I can trim off some size from the tracks, then I may well do that.
It looks awesome, I like it a lot. Did you consider making the track pieces hollow and bottomless so that they could be stacked atop one another to reduce their footprint in robot mode?
Haha. Great minds. I did. There are actually 2 quarters of track on each side, nested inside one another. So, what you see is actually only half the track. The other half is behind it.
Oh yeah I figured they must be for base mode. That will probably looks great, but personally I'd sooner have a much smaller track in base mode than throw off so much great work with something that stands out like that. If the leg extensions end up being really stable and have a place in base (and hopefully ship) mode I'm really hoping you find a way to get these produced to sell. I'd love to have some for my PXG too, and tracks that work with the robot proportions better would make the set that much better!
Well, I transformed Omega into base mode. It was a bit of a tight squeeze to fit the rocket and platform inside the track but it did fit. So, I definitely can’t make the track smaller. To adjust the appearance of the track in robot mode, the only thing I can do is to adjust the height at which it sits on his back. But whatever I take out of the top, just moves further down his back. Maybe I’ll do that sometime but I’m pretty happy with how this turned out overall. I think I’ll paint him up for now and start moving on to my next design project. There’s a certain g1 deception character that really hasn’t been given a good large deluxe figure. Logic dictates he will have to be my first full print figure
That base mode looks great. If bot mode makes you happy that's really all that matters, but if you ever did want to decrease the size they are on his back I'd suggest either making them split up more and peg the other sections somewhere else on his back or make them fold in half (like where I marked in below pic) to layer on his back.
Yeah as I've said all along, this bot is a BEAST. Your improvements are top notch man. Easily the best Omega Supreme I've seen to date.
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the feedback and ideas along the way. I know exactly what you mean. It's one of the cosmetic aspects I wrestled with through this project. I'm in your camp in that I think it would probably look more balanced that way. The problem I kept coming up against was needing the track to be a certain size and I couldn't really scaled it down any further. So, right now, I actually just don't know where I would put those top track pieces if I removed them. There is literally no more room on his back I could shift the whole track down his back, which would leave less visible at the top end. As it moves down, it's not that visible at the lower end anyway. So, that could be an option. I think if the track was cast plastic rather than printed and if I'd used more complex folding joints and pins, then I may have been able to achieve something more intricate. Maybe I can convince Planet X to come up with an official upgrade version
