I'm looking for an older style text based RPG, in the flavor of Zork and the like. Don't really care if it's browser based or a standalone program. Not so much for the type of games like Torn City and it's ilk. Any thoughts/recommendations. Free is the optimum price. Just looking for something to help kill time on slow days at work.

I call upon the powers of TFW2005 to help in my search.

(and to those of you that recommended Oblivion to me in that other thread, you are rock and I will buy you cookies or beer if we ever meet!)

Do you by any chance have an Iphone Yoda? They have a free app with all those games packaged in.

I have an iPod Touch. It has the 2.0 update and the AppStore. I've put some on there, but not even looked there for this... I just how how quick playing games on it sucks the battery down.

Well I mean more because I found a lot of old text games that I hadn't played and forgotten about by looking at the list of games in that App

made map making a real bitch (if you never bought the games back in the day) but there was a real feeling of danger in it.

Not quite in the same vein as Zork and the like, but nethack is the ULTIMATE text based rogue-like dungeon romp.
