Simple really, just vote for which explanation makes more sense to you.
An unnecesary plot element, included only to sell toys.
I vote for this.
Yeah, I think Devastator is one of the biggest waste of space in the movie. Basically you can take it out of the movie and it won't have suffer one single bit. It was just Bay's tactic to make the trailers seemed alot better with this new, gigantic Decepticon, and make you assume that it'd be just as impressive in the movie. Sadly, it isn't the case.
Being comprised of constructicons, IMO his job was to dig and reveal the Sun Harvestor. Blasting away and the pyramid would cause damage to it? But yeah, I wished Devastator was involved in more fighting with the armies and AUtobots.
1. You never see Devastator's components adopt robot modes.
2. The named Constructicons (Rampage, Long Haul, Scrapper, Demolishor) certainly don't take part in Devastator as they're seen doing other stuff while Devastator climbs the pyramid.
That's option 1 for me.
And in another thread they said to remove Alice.
and another thread says to remove Sam's parents.
and in another remove the twins.
remove that government idiot sent by Obama
remove the kitchen bots
remove the college scenes
remove the entire opening scene in Shanghai
remove The Fallen
remove Mojo & Frankie
If we listen to the so-called *fans* on TFW we would end up with the opening credits, the forest battle & the end credits.
NO THANK YOU *FANS*! Time for you to shut up, go back to mommy's basement & make your own Transformers movie! Jeez!
We need to see/know more of Devastator and his subparts in TF3!!
"DEVASTATOR FOR Transformers 3!"
I can't decide. Someone ask Mr. Orci.
This. Devastator is totally pointless. Can't Megatron blast the pyramid himself? What the hell is he doing up there?
Let's see what did Devastator did in the movie:
- Devastator vacuumed the very area it combined, and sucked in Skids, but Skids broke out through its eye. It could not harm any other characters present despite its immense size and arsenal of weapons.
- Devastator then proceed to climb the pyramid, so it can uncover the tip and reveal the technology Cybertronians use to destroy sun. It got destroyed shortly after by an experimental weapon on the destroyer, and Fallen shown that it can use telekinesis to remove the pyramid bricks just as easily as Devastator could.
So Devastator didn't kill any Autobots nor their human allies, got killed quickly, and Fallen could've done the same job as Devastator could anyway once it has the Matrix. What purpose does it serve in the movie?
We've seen the toy so it can't be to sell a toy.
I think it's so we can all feel good that humans can one shot anything in the entire universe.
This was my thoughts while watching the movie. The only reason he fought anyone at all is that Skids and Mudflap happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Actually isn't that the point?
After seeing the toy something was clearly needed to sell it because that thing certainly won't sell itself.
Screen time helps sell toys, so I fear for Scrapper and Rampage to have voyager toys.
The first option.
