    So ultimately, even though the critics go to great lengths to say how this sort of film is beneath them and that it's lowering the tone of cinema etcetera etcetera, they still, for the most part, end up saying it's enjoyable.

    It's pretty much what a lot of transfans have been saying, too, though; we complain mightily about Michael Bay, but we love the movie despite (or, in my case, increasingly because) of him.

    There are some critics who realize the value of cinema as pure escapist entertainment. Thank God for such folk.

    I think 3 stars is the average we can expect for this flim and as much as I don't like some of the movie designs...heck, I will support because of its TF and movie Optimus is the closest we will ever get to see G1 Optimus in a live action movie...wait until you hear Cullen's voice as Optimus...all the years will come rolling by...especially for those of us who grew up with G1! :D

    Freaking critics. They're the ones who have put forth the notion that cinema should be about more than entertainment. I want movies and TV to teach me nothing. I want them to entertain me. I can teach my kids myself and I can do it better than Hollywood. I can learn through books and History Channel. Just entertain me, damnit, and forego the philosophical, moral and political brainwashing!

    Hardly. They write to cater to their readers, who demand (and more importantly, pay for) highbrow views. People who seek pure entertainment or who prefer to make their decisions based on other criteria (such as yourself) don't heed reviewers in the first place, and thus are not part of their target audience.

    If the critics wrote only things that pleased you, they'd alienate all their current readers and likely lose their jobs....and you still wouldn't read their reviews, would you?

    Right. It's enjoyable, but it's awful. It's like they're reviewing porn.

    :banghead:  :confused:

    I read through these reviews as well as most on the Rotten Tomatos site. The majority are positive but the few that are really nasty seem to be all about snobbery or politics!

    The common negative threads were:

    1)Toy based movie

    {get over it! toys is entertainment and entertainment is toys! God forbid Hasbro makes cash off of this, forshame! I guess it's not P.C. for a company to make a profit anymore... :dunce  }

    2)Military Recruitment Ad

    {OK yeah right we can't have a movie portray the military services in a positive way...?! Maybe if Prime had quoted Hugo Chávez or Chairman Mao about overthrowing the Imerialist Capitalist Dogs @ Hasbro...?! :banghead:  }

    3)This Movie is Soulless

    {Yeah, good vs. evil is definitely an outdated western concept... No virtue in that... :confused:  }

    I think if the Autobots had come to earth to preach to us about global warming and the evils of consumer- based economics these reviews would have been different... :puke:  Some people just hate everything that doesn't fit neatly into their sterile, P.C. reality.

    Fortunately, most reviews recognize the movie for what it is- a slam bang blockbuster of hero vs villain action that everyone can use to escape 2 hours and 20 minutes of reality. :rock
