There's definitely something different in Cullen's interpretation of Prime Prime as opposed to G1 or even movie Prime.

It's hard to put a finger on, but he sounds really really old and formal. Like it's most obvious whenever he says, "Agent Fowler". In fact, whenever he says ANYONE's name, he's very careful to pronounce it slowly, correctly and deliberately, which really comes off weird to me especially during battle.

 

Yeah, Megatron's characterization is one of a brutal dictator who kills those under his command just as easily as those he considers his "enemy". Great all around bot and certainly one to emulate and admire.

Megatron's character also has the advantage of most people thinking that having the uncensored ability to perform evil actions and deeds are so much more fun to do than having the unenviable responsibilty of fighting those evil actions-- which is Prime's directive.

Ah but Megatron is the villain, and as we all know, villains aren't bound by the same constraints as their noble counterparts. For example Megatron gets his entertainment from belittling Starscream and doing stuff like cutting Cliffjumper in half.

Notice how much unrepentant glee is in his voice when he does something evil?

 

This thread is a buzzkill.

 

Prime balances out the younger eager personalities and keeps a serious tone in the show. I like that.

Can't say I'm a big fan of Optimus Prime in TFP. The writing for him is extremely dull and lacks any real emotions. Hopefully the character will open up at some point during the show. But in the mean time there are other characters in TFP to enjoy.
