http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=412911&in_page_id=1773 They think THIS is the most offensive thing the show has ever done? THIS???? Have they - the writers or the posters- ever seen the show?
I would agree that the timing of it could have been better. The wounds are still pretty fresh, so to sepak.
It does seem a little too soon to be doing that, but yeah, they've done worse. Usually I'll laugh at it all, but could'nt laugh at this one yet. Still love the show like crazy though, it's so damn funny
I posted a response, but I doubt it'll get added so let me repeat myself: South Park has had many trips to hell. Each time they add the lastest dead celebrities, including then-recent corpses like Princess Di and JFK Jr. I take the fact that everyone in hell, even Satan, was upset by Steve's death to be about as nice a compliment as the show has ever given anyone (and they don't give them, even to those they like - if there is anyone). More to the point, people seem to miss the fact that this isn't making fun of Steve - it's mocking those hypersensitive boobs who cry out "it's too soon" at every turn. They drew a nice big bullseye, and these guys are just stepping right into the center of it.
Good point. That's what the show does best though. Often, whatever it is about the show that's aroused the ire of the self-appointed guardians of society...if they actually bothered to watch the show and understood the context, they'd find that the message, such as it is, is somewhat positive and not a sign of the downfall of civilization.
eh, i gave up on south park being funny years ago...though at seeing the picture i did let out a slight chuckle...the animated picture is kinda funny...
I chuckled at that one. I really don't get it, Satan went up to Steve to tell him it was too soon to be wearing a Steve Irwin costume. I really laughed when Satan found out it was the real Irwin and told him to leave because he didn't have a costume.
The 'JOKE' was someone mocking people who are insensitive enough to 'dress up' as steve irwin for halloween. EVERY YEAR there is a celebrity death that is mocked in costume form. That picture is exactly what people are dressing as for halloween. I have seen it. The joke went something like this: "hey satan... some jerk dressed as Steve irwen for Halloween and is offending the guests... " Satan then goes over to the guy and says "hey guy, steve just died and it is a little soon, you are going to have to leave because you are offending people..." Then he says 'Hey satan, it's me, Steve Irwen" Satan then turns around and says 'Well then, you have no costume... so you have to leave" Southpark has made fun of peopel through parody... thier whole movie was about 'morons parents who take young children to innaproriate movies' And when I saw it... there were parents with 7 year olds in the movie. And then the Uncle F*ker song came on and it was awesome because anyone who says 'it was too filthy' shouldn't have been there. The joke was not making fun of Steve irwen, it was making fun of people who dress as him.
When I first saw the pic I was a little surprised, but in al honestly, what makes it worse than Princess Di or JFK JR, or any one famous who died? Sure is happened that much longer ago, but doesn’t it make it any less important?
I saw the episode earlier today and laughed at the whole thing. Loved Gacey, Dahmer, and Bundy as the 3 stooges. Satan and the whole "My Super Sweet 16" party. Really laughed at the line where Satan maybe evil but he is not as bad as any of those girls..
It's pretty clear the point of that scene sailed directly over the heads of the writer of that article and a number of the people that are complaining.
I was surprised myself that Steve Irwin made an appearance. At least Satan did tell him (before he knew it was ACTUALLY Steve) that dressing up as Steve Irwin with the stingray coming out was a bit soon. But the rest of the episode was pretty funny. Biggie Smalls...Biggie Smalls...aww screw it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but when the Christmas Classics episode came out and they sang Christmas Time in Hell, they mention Gene Siskel (or however it's spelled) and he just died as well.
Time for South Park's semi-anual mainstream coverage. I like Steve Irwin and all, but this didn't really bother me becuase it's South Park. No one's upset that Princess Di, Jimmy Stewart and Conan O'Brien are in South Park hell (for not being Mormon, of course). I don't think the guy in the Gorak episode was directly said to be him, though. And eve if it was, returning from the dead is not all that uncommon in the show.
