We had some pretty crazy weather in Scotland this week too! On Sunday it was hot and sunny! All day! But seriously, we're set for a year's worth of rain in the next few weeks and there have been thunderstorms when we never really get them. Scotland, West Coast especially, is a wet wet wet country and nothing much more but the last few winters have been bone chillingly cold with snow falling right up until April (hell I remember it snowing in June one time). We're getting record cold winters and record hot summers more and more and every time there is a storm though it's bigger and badder every time. While it's not as crazy as those seen in the US, Hurricane Bawbag from last year was pretty gosh darn mental!
My heart goes out to all that live in the affected areas of Colorado..I have friends in Colorado Springs area and I'm trying to contact them to be sure their houses are okay..hopefully out of the fire's path. One of my favorite places in Colorado is the Garden of the Gods...they were showing how much the fire has damaged in that area on the news today. Just seeing all the trees, forests, and of course, people's homes burning with no end in sight, is so tragic and sad. KB...your pics were amazing. Strange weather in a lot of places this year. In TN we're in a drought situation here, so a few small brush fires have started here and there...only burning down 1 farmer's barn so far. But many counties have passed a ban on all fireworks, especially with the 4th coming up. We haven't had any of our usual rainfall for the spring season, much less the start of summer. It's just hot and dry here. We're getting the temps in the 100's too...we'll tie or break old temp records by the weekend.
Thanks for your well wishes We're doing ok here except for the sick sonuvabiches who took advantage of the situation and broke into people's cars and homes to loot. The fire is more or less 45% contained now. 2 confirmed dead as far as I know. over 400 homes destroyed. Here's a few pics I took from my backyard the other day: *edit* It also amazes me how strong the community is out here. I went to donate some personal hygiene supplies and water to the careandshare organization and it was like non-stop traffic of people giving what they could.

Holy crap. Normally I love stormy weather but getting tornado threats that frequently would freak me out a bit.
We've had a drout here in Illinois for a good month or so. The temperatures have been over 100 for about a week.....and I hear people from Arizona say 100 degrees here is much worse than 100 degrees there.
That is just nuts! First the fires and now this? We barely got a trickle of rain today, tired of this heat. I'm use to storms, massive storms hitting our area but rarely had any so far.
If only this damn drought would let up! I mean, come on! Where I live, the water levels in the lakes are getting too low to even go out on a speedboat! And so far not a very decent amount of rain. At this rate, we're gonna need a miracle for some rain. Even if it says a thirty percent chance, that is just too damn low for me. What I'm hoping for is at least 80 percent. Then that would be a miracle in its own right.
Stupid thunderstorm knocked out power at my house two days ago. Since then, other houses near me have gotten power back, yet my house continues to remain without electricity. I've had to stay at a hotel since yesterday with my family. AEP says on their site that power will be up 5-7. You wanna know what they're really doing? Taking videos of the damage the storm left instead of doing their fucking jobs. Those 23-second clips of downed trees and power lines could have been better spent FIXING THE POWER. I'm sorry if I'm ranting, but I've been feeling really sick since we lost power, and I've thrown up a few times, though that's probably because of the heat. Fuck Nature, and fuck AEP.
