    Hey guys!
There are times we could use some help deciding if we should open or not open a toy. Here, you can post a toy and ask opinions of others. As we know TF's can be worth alot more MISB so don't ever regret opening up a Tf again, and if it is an open don't go another day tempted to rip that TF out its box! :)
    Here, I'll start:
    BIS Rodimus vs. Cyclonus two-pack

I still think it's crazy how Shadow Command Megatron is going for so much. That's eBay for you though, a transaction or two pushes through and everyone's following suit. It's a three year old toy that was available mass market! Really crazy.

This thread IMHO suffers from severe hindsight bias ... ie: crystal ball effect. Nobody knows which random figures or 3rd party figures will skyrocket in the future. I present the following "If people only knew, they would not have opened list" as a small example:

    2008 Botcon Shattered Glass Rodimus
    Henkei Wildrider
    Ultra Magnus/Skywarp Classics 2-pack
Practically any FP City Commander & Protector armour and repaints (SC, DIA, SS, etc)
    FP Springer
    Botcon Darksyde Megatron
    Bruticus Maximus
    ROTF Shadow Command Megatron
    MP Thundercracker

I know it's going to sound absolute bonkers but I'm going to 'predict' TFC Hercules all 6 MISB case fresh will fetch a lot of money 5 years down the road. Rationale is that not everybody can afford it, those who do will open them right away ... will be very few sets MISB down the line. This is what happened to Fort Max (not going to go into the whole official Hasbro product vs 3rd party argument) but if FP product appreciation is any indication, 3rd party figures have the 'potential' to be worth a lot down the line (if not already).

^ This is why, if resale value is important to you, you shouldn't open anything unless it's a shelfwarmer. And even then you may get burned. Here are some options.

    1. Wait six months to a year before you open anything. This will give you a better idea of how many of a figure are out there and what sort of demand for it there is.

    2. Buy two or more of everything. Open one, keep the rest sealed.

    3. Stop caring about resale value. In point of fact, a lot of Transformers do good at retaining much of their resale value even after they've been opened, as long as they're complete and unbroken.

I open everything but keep the all the packaging to rebox later (if possible - carded figures aren't usually worth the repacking hassle) when I need to put something into storage to make room for new figures. So I get to enjoy the figure and still eventually have it nicely boxed again in the future. It may not get MISB prices if I ever decided to sell (which I don't really have any intention to do anyway) but it would still be more than just sold loose. At the very least it's good if I decided to give someone one of my figures as a gift as it's nicer in the box than not.
And I always have the option to re-open the figures again if I fancy.
