Just received this alternative synopsis for Bumblebee: The Movie, which will appear on certain international listings for the movie. This is directly from Paramount, by the way.

"In recent years and thanks to comedies such as Daddy's Home 1 and Daddy's Home 2, the worldwide popularity of WWE wrestler, John Cena, has been growing. Irrefutable proof of this is his starring role in the Bumblebee film; A prequel to the Transformers movies. John Cena plays agent Burns, a relentless investigator who will stop at nothing until he discovers the truth.

In Bumblebee, the most beloved character of the franchise, ends up in ruins after a confrontation with the Decepticons. Bumblebee is discovered in a salvage yard and repaired by the young Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld). Charlie will soon discover that this is not an ordinary Volkswagen."

So, the new synopsis includes the identity of agent Burns (which we certainly guessed), and exactly how Bumblebee got injured. To put things into perceptive, here's the regular synopsis:

"On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug."

Note: Also if you are wondering why Daddy's Home 1 and 2 are mentioned (where John Cena played just a guest character) instead of his famous movies, it's because DH1 and 2 are Paramount movies.

Sounds interesting. I find synopses to be one of the most intriguing parts of information campaign. I especially loved that Transformers 4 synopsis that mentioned Autobots and Decepticons being mostly gone from Earth and humans messing with Cybertronian tech beyond what they can control, all while a Transformers menace had Earth in his sights. It was taken down by Paramount's request, but it turned out to be true!

Sounds like it's repeating a lot of the same beats as the previous films. Kid finds a beat up PoS yellow car, turns out to be an alien robot. Also, there's an agent guy who probably is going to end up being the comedic relief character.

You know, I actually can't disagree. I wish it was actually more out there. Frankly, given the coastal California setting I'd love something like a Sharkticon attack or something along those lines. Even if it ends up being really good, I hope it also has a weirdness to it.

Isn't it an established fact that he lost his voice during Cybertron, just before the Allspark was jettisoned to space?

Depends on whether you want to treat the prequel comics as canon- I doubt Bay or the writers room did... As far as I can tell without digging out that meeting Optimus for the first time movie clip,it was only mentioned as an old battlefield injury.

I've seen other people speculate that the storyline might be very similar to the '07 film (maybe even a straight up re-imaging of it). If this is the case, I'm actually okay with that. The '07 film was enjoyable, but I feel like it could have explored some of the ideas in it a lot more. Having re-watched it recently, I found myself wanting more of Sam's relationship with Bumblebee. We're told the two have a connection, but we don't really see it forming. Sam only meets Bee a few minutes before the rest of Autobots show up, and their interaction is only a couple lines. The movie could have also explored how this affects Sam's personal life. This is the sort of stuff I'm hoping to see more of in the Bumblebee movie. I wouldn't mind it being a slightly more refined version of the '07 film, one that fleshes out the character interactions a bit more.

It was established in the expanded material, but lets remember Optimus said in TLK, that he havent heard his voice since Cybertron, which could imply he lost it in Cybertron.

It wasn't the same voice,it was a more broken voice so you can say he never heard his real voice.

Doesn't sound too bad if they make it where Bumblebee has to work his way up to be able to fight Cons. Aside from maybe the first movie, we've never really seen the Autobots struggle against any of the Decepticons so it'd be nice to actually see why they're feared.

I look forward to not knowing why the Decepticons were on Earth
