lol, before I clicked on your link I went straight for the App store, fearing it was one of those situations like the NES one that came out after Xmas. A real NES emulator came out and was pulled the next day. This is pretty awesome, and I'll pick it up for Space Harrier and Shining Force, but it's kinda silly since they are still charging 5 bucks for Golden Axe independently, thus they don't "really" need an emulator to run this stuff, they simply need to release their games. Shining Force on my phone is pure win though.
When I read the title I was expecting something that was going to allow the use of ROMs not just to simply allow you to play purchased games. Isn't it more accurate to say you will simply be able to purchase old sega games and play them on your iphone? When I think emulator I always think of piracy, I have no idea why Hope Vectorman gets released for it as everyone should play them some Vectorman
If subsequent games are 2.99, I don't mind too much, but with Sega, I have literally already like dipped 6-7 times on their stuff. PSP, PS2 Sega Collection, the new Collection on PS3, and the original games, which I still own. I do see this as the final opus, what with having some of my favorite games of all time on my phone, and Phantasy Star 4 would look lovely with my feet propped up on slow days at work. Also, no collection has had Space Harrier on it. Here's to hoping they incorporate Master System into this thing. Smart move making the initial emulator free and having a little freebie game. it's a real shame that we can't ever have this with NES or SNES, but I can understand why.
It's an emulator in that it emulates Genesis games. But only legally released ones via the Emulation App. Every compilation disc you've ever bought is essentially an emulator and roms.
Yeah, I meant SH2, my bad. Space Harrier is available on PS3/360's collection, but it was never a Genesis game. Space Harrier 2, After Burner and Outrun have never been on a collection. Well the latter 2 were on the gameboy collection, but never Space Harrier 2. I hope the control schemes are good.
The link on your post http://gizmodo.com/5452354/ultimate-genesis-segas-official-console-emulator-for-iphone They crossed out the Today and put Feb.
No problem. I've been kinda nerfing the App store throughout the day to see if it arrived, and then I realized that they crossed out the Today.
Wonder what's happening with this thing. It was supposed to be out the 28th, but nothing's been said since.
If you find it, let me know hehehe. I've been looking forward to this one. I hope we get Beyond Oasis and some of Sega's other silent gems.
Eh, I imagine it'll be mostly the same shoveled crap they've been throwing at every nostalgia compilation or digital download over the last 3-4 years.
So I guess I'm understanding why Sega didn't go through with their emulator, even if it would have been a nicer way to organize their games. Space Harrier 2 just came out in the app store for 99 cents (This one was supposed to come free with the emulator app), and Ecco the Dolphin is 3 bucks (more than the $.99-$1.99 that they said the games would run on the emulator). I guess if it works for them. I still didn't have a problem double dipping for games like Shining Force and Phantasy Star, but it would have been nice to have it in one packaged emulator that you could access all your games from.
