OK, my wife's desktop computer monitor is posessed, or something. When she came home it was making a clicking sound, and cycling it's power 3 or 4 times a second. I tried to power it down with the power button to no effect. I've unplugged it and every time I've plugged it back in it starts cycling again. It's a flat panel Dell monitor, just over a year old.

    Any advice? Help?

    Just make the nagging stop.

Bad flyback transformer or power relay.

Probably cost more to fix it than to get a new one.

I was afraid it'd be an answer like that. :(

Any other ideas? Or a place for a cheap replacement?

Dell has a 3 year warranty on monitor's outside of the warranty on the system. I would make em swap it.
They will be able to send the monitor as a Parts only service, You should get it with in 24 hours.

I'm now into 45 minutes of call. I've powered her computer up and down 3 times so that the call center woman can hear the Windows sound to make sure that everything else is working.

    My favorite question/response so far...

"But it'd all be easier if you had a spare monitor"

If I had the spare monitor I wouldn't be dealing with you...

I have a couple spare monitors in my attic, but I'm sure shipping on something that heavy would be killer... plus I have not plugged them in for at least 3 years.

Whew... 58 minutes and 47 seconds on the phone, and they're shipping a replacement "part". Even though at around the 20 minute mark she was sure that it was the monitor, she still tried to work me through the whole shebang. Add to that the 2 or 3 minute pauses of total silence making me thing my cellphone isn't working, and I've at least earned the price of the monitor.

Wow... what a pain in the ass.

But at least you will get a new monitor!

The only reason I stuck with it.

And I circumvented her "checks" a few times. The second and third times for the "windows sound" was my laptop computer with a thankfully quick boot time.

:lol  You should have just gone to your media folder in windows and played back the wav file.

Man, I am sorry it took that long. I am suprised her team lead wasn't on her ass. I should have told you to tell them to go to "Monitor Replacement Policy" on their DNS program :/
