Today marked the ending of a long, expensive, and extremely frustrating journey for me that's taken the better part of a year. Three junkers, one massive mixing and matching of parts, a rechroming, one lost package, and two sets of Reprolabels later, I present to you my restored G1 Octane:

For those of you who might be interested in trying this yourself, visit Chrome Tech USA for all your vacuum-metalization needs, then head on down to Reprolabels and grab yourself both a sheet for Octane as well as Upgrade Set #3. :)

    Nice!

How much did the re-chrome cost you?

    Thanks! :)

Well, not including shipping and handling both ways, the stripping of the remaining chrome, cleaning of the pieces, and subsequent rechroming cost around 5 bucks per piece. So, 15 dollars total for Octane's two wings and his tanker top piece. On the whole, not too bad.

use this advice at your own risk & I take no responsibility but a soaking in bleach removes chrome from plastics.

** Octane looks great btw, thanks for sharing your chroming source

Looks great for g1 octane. I always hated the g1 with the arms just hanging of the sides lol. But seriously congrats it looks great!

Thanks for the praise and compliments, everyone. While the chrome is nice, Delta Star's update set also helps. It gives Octane's truck mode actual details. :)

Personally, I feel safer leaving that to the professionals (though Chrome Tech USA does give you a homemade recipe for removing chrome before sending it in if you want to save a little money that way).

No problem. Do be sure to share what that idea was sometime. :)

Also, for the curious, I only use my washing machine for photos because the fluorescent lighting makes the colors appear more accurate and true-to-life.

The guy originally quote ten dollars a piece before physically examining them, but my math based on the final price works out to be five bucks (and he confirmed it later). Just ask for an estimate to be sure to avoid any surprises. But, overall, it's not bad if you have the junkers lying around and want to increase their value.

That look very nice, very tempting to get all those dulled out part re-chromed! I always wanted a service of this kind and though it was probably just me wanting that! But now I know where to look, thanks!

Also didn't the upgrade sticker set came with some for the back wheels so they can be purple too?
