I think I might have found one of the most obscure jokes in a cartoon ever.

I can't find it on YouTube, but I saw an episode of the Simpsons where Homer proclaims "This is America, the country that invented the glory hole! We can do anything!"

It was so obscure, I still didn't see it.

    What'd I miss?

The entire cartoon is an almost word for word re-enactment of some old audio of Orson Wells being difficult at a recording session.

Ah.. I had heard some similar audio of Casey Kasem cussing out some guys in the studio but knew this was too different to be a spoof of it.

Maurice LaMarche has said before (I think it was an SDCC) that one of his favorite things to do during downtime in a recording studio is to recite the dialogue of the infamous recording session verbatim.

What about every episode of Megas XLR?

Yeah, okay. The jokes aren't that obscure when we consider the target audience.
NOBODY who was supposed to be watching Pinky and the Brain should have gotten that bit.

When I watch a lot of old Loony Tunes cartoons now I see a lot of stuff that would totally go over kid's heads, but it's still funny on a younger level too, really clever writing

    That was great.
They make a reference to that audio tape on the comentary on Transformers: The Movie.

I also thought it was hysterical in Superbad when Seth said that his sexual career peeked at an early age and Evan said: "You're Orson Welles".

But not another soul at the theater laughed. :(

I remember I always thought Animaniacs used a lot of jokes that kids would not get. That is why I liked it. I feel like they spoofed this on The Critic too.

Yeah, they even have a video of him making Gary Cole laugh himself stupid on the 3rd volume of Harvey Birdman DVDs doing his Orson Welles.

    Maurice LaMarche is awesome.

Thanks for pointing out the Orson Welles reference- the episode is much funnier wit the background knowledge. Animaniacs was always a show with humor thrown in for the adults. I wished it'd lasted longer.

Beast Wars, Season 3 when Black Aracbnia cuts Rattrap's tail to use as a conduit for the ARK and the expression on Silverbolt's face when she does it. A nod to the ladies or Lady who chopped her husband's penis off.

Also, Rattrap calls her an emasculating fembot when she does it.
