This study is such bullshit soft science. It's a social / cultural problem, sure. But it's no more contagious than gambling is a 'disease.'
I dunno. They're seeming to conclude that contagious=peer pressure. That is to say, if all your boys are fat, it's ok for you to let yourself go too.
Right, and I'll concede that to be probably true. I guess what I don't like is the use of the word 'contagious.' To me, that implies that obesity is just something that's passed to you, and that's not the case. Someone might think it's okay to gain weight 'cause your friends/family/spouse have, but the actual gain only happens because of decisions and choices made by that individual.
If this is true then stupidity must be contagious as well. But I thought people liked hanging out with those that make them look better like Zach and Screech?
Aside from being hereditary (which isn't really the same thing as contagious), obesity is not something you catch from someone else. If that was true, then my usual group of friends wouldn't consist of one of the skinniest people I've ever met; it's a group of four, 3 of us are fairly overweight (not obese but whatever), and if it was contagious, there's no way he'd be that skinny.
So you're saying that this study has little validity because out of four people in your group of friends, three of them are overweight? Again, I think they mean "contagious" like an idea is contagious, not like a virus.
