Transformer toys are full of intentional and unintentional little visual tricks that always add a special something to the character for me. It's been admitted in designer panels that toys in the Universe/Classics/Generations/Nerd Wallet Sadness line are given allusions to real-world clothing designs in their visual aesthetic.

Ladies and Gentlemen, today I am here to blow. your. mind.

Classics Sunstreaker is wearing bellbottom jeans to go with his 70's aesthetic of being originally derived from a 1974 Lamborghini Countach.

Classics Bumblebee is wearing a hoodie sweater to evoke a youthful appearance!

Generations Drift's roof forms a tank top/wifebeater over his chest to give a visual aesthetic that I like to think references Bruce Lee in Way of the Dragon or Kurt Russel in Big Trouble in Little China. For a lot of people it might add to that Wolverine aesthetic but to me it's always supposed to be a Bruce Lee thing since it's hard to convey 'shirtless' on a robot.

This isn't intentional at all, but someone once pointed this out to me and it's now the most distracting feature on ROTF Leader-Class Optimus Prime.

He has little dudes sitting at the bottom of his feet.

I like to think that since it's ROTF Prime it's panicking civilians he's just barely missed stepping on and now they're praying for their lives.

The Transformers line over the last few years is FULL of these nice little touches and designs. I'd like to see what you guys can come up with!

edit: Hey look all my images are broken.. working on that

PingMag - The Tokyo-based magazine about “Design and Making Things” Archive Transformers’ Toy Design

Took me a bit of time to find it, but it IS there and intentional in those toylines. :)

I see the bell-bottoms on Sunstreaker, but I hardly think it was in any way a nod to the 70's. It was probably just happenstance from the design of the vehicle and transformation scheme.

Bumblebee... Just look at the G1 Goldbug figure. Again, it's a transformation scheme used by tons of Transformers like Tracks and Wheeljack for example. I don't think "Hoodie" was anywhere in mind with the design process.

I don't see what Bruce Lee and Samurai have anything to do with Drift, or each other for that matter.

And RotF Prime's feet do look pretty funny. But they're also not painted properly, so you can take that bit of design only so far.

It blew my mind when I found out that ROTF Onslaught (Bruticus Maximus) has uneven coloring with the knees.

I noticed classic Silverstreak's chest looks like a grinning Jack O Lantern kind of face, and now I can't unsee that.

Unfortunately, that's all I ever see on that mold since the discovery a couple years back.

    Tragic indeed. :D

    mwhahaha

Actually, its kind of cool to have a toy robot with robo-testicles anyway. Sadly that Supreme ROTF Devastator was lacking that movie accurate detail.
