I actually did this about a year ago. He sits on my desk at work. We do vehicle wraps and graphics and I thought it would be kinda cool to do a mini wrap.
I was a little afraid to even post this, with some of the crazy modifications and great paint jobs some of you guys do, but I figured what the heck. Like I said this is not a repaint we actually digitally printed the graphics on a Roland SP300V (digital printer for signs) and used a wrap vinyl (Arlon 180C) so that it could conform around the small curves. The hardest part was getting the vinyl in all the creases. On regular vehicles you use a blow torch to heat the vinyl to stretch, but in this case that obviously wasn't an option.

A hair dryer at it's highest setting ought to do the trick. My dad used it when he wrapped a little electric cart for my brother and me. ^^

Yeah, that's an amazing piece of work you came up with there! I'd love to see something a little more 'traditional' for Prime though, although that Autobot insignia on the doors looks friggin' sweet! This is something I'm sure you'd be able to sell to people looking to spruce up the rather boring plain-jane Primes (or Nemesis') with... Nothing too difficult to apply, and -probably- easily removable if you end up changing your mind down the line, unlike paint applications would be!

    Kudos & props to you!

I think that a little bit of black paint around the nose couldn't hurt, but I certainly like the idea I'm seeing here. Short of using a torch, how well would a hair dryer do?

OHHHH!! VINYL....MY ARCH NEMESIS....All hatred aside, that is a cool idea. I could imagine the frustration of working with that.

I bet if you made more decals like this for alternators, folks would buy them.

    Very cool.

Thanks for all the great comments. I've been inspired to try a similar type project on another bot.

I guess I never thought about making and selling these things. I kinda just did it to do it, if you know what I mean. I might try doing a couple more and if I can get my production time down, and quality up I might think about it. I used our estimating program we have here at work to figure out how much one of these would cost at the speed I finished it and I figured there is no way I would feel comfortable charging someone $400 for a graphic job like that. So until I get the kinks worked out and the price down jobs like this (from myself at least) will not be for sale. Maybe someday though.

Oh and encline trust me I totally understand having at least a slight hatred of vinyl. One of the reasons I even attempted this was because of my unfamalliarity with this type of vinyl. It was a nice practice piece, but if I do another I'll be sure to use some paint too.

You did an A1 job with that, bro. Great work. I wouldn't mine buying something similar to that.
