Remember me? I drove myself crazy repainting a TFTM Nightwatch Prime into a more movie-accurate Optimus Prime proper.

Well, I got my hands on a RoTF Leader Prime and started working meticulously to make a movie accurate version of him! The mold was so impressive, it was impossible to resist.

I've been creating my own color mixes, airbrushing flames, spraying chrome, carefully painting detailed bits, pinstriping, and layering coats for what I feel is my best custom to date. I still have to remold a few pieces and build a gun for him and replace the head LED.

One thing I've noticed is a lot of people pinstriping the flames on Optimus with silver, but on every still that I've pulled from the movie and bonus materials, the pinstripes are actually light blue. So I decided to go with that instead.
Anyway, enjoy the pics of my work in progress, and I'll update when I have more done.

Very nice work with the paintwork there. The flames look especially clean. How did you get the pinstripes so thin?

Oh, and yeah I was aware that the pinstripes are actually light blue, but I decided to go with silver because it just simply looks better IMO.

Uploading some more photos. Chrome is on first stage. Another coat ought to give it that mirror shine!
For those who asked, the flames were hand drawn and cut using masks then airbrushed over the basecoats. The pinstriping was accomplished while the areas were still masked off with thinned paint, a very fine brush, and an even steadier hand. I wouldn't even attempt it if I was the least bit nervous come project day.

As for reference pics, I've used this website and the two-disc set from the first movie almost exclusively.

very clever!! i never would have thought to do the pinstripe while it was still masked off.

What kind of chrome are you using?
