I've had that. Landed a nice job and then two weeks later they said they'd have to let me go because they'd overestimated how many orders they'd be getting in to fill.

So I get a job at another place and a few weeks later they go into liquidation.

And then there was the place that got ahead of themselves, made some nice profit, immediately spent it all on new machinery, then lost some clients and so had to make over a dozen people (including me) redundant to keep afloat. And then a few months later the company came back begging us to return when they got some new clients and needed experienced staff fast to machine the orders. Although that was kinda good because I had my redunancy pay when they laid me off and then I haggled up my wages to return.

Good luck with the job search though, OP.

Thanks for the words guys! I have a couple interviews already lined up, hopefully with something pretty cushy so I don't destroy my body any further than I have already.

So sorry to hear that and hope you do have good luck in getting a new job... maybe night school, either to get a degree or another degree in another field.
Never hurts to have some type of back up in this economy. Also, there might be some financial assistance if you can qualify.

I was very nearly in a similar situation this summer. My archives position was funded to a large extent by the federal government, and with recent cuts to the archives programs at a federal level my funding suddenly evaporated. Fortunately, while the place I was working was going to be able to cover some of the funding to keep me around for a few hours a week, the provincial government stepped in for all the year's contracts.

I was painting.. no one really has painting done in the cold (bad idea anyway), and the jobs that were lined up pulled out on us, so he had to let not only me, but 2 of the 3 outer guys go, as well.

Hang in there. Eventually you'll interview with someone who isn't just a dummy with a checklist, but actually knows what the job entails and that it's possible for a new hire to learn the ropes in a reasonable time frame.

If you don't, exaggerate a little...whoever put "10 years of Windows 2008 experience" in the ad has already shown they're not particularly bright :p
