    That looks great.

I loved the Brave and the Bold comics. Great stuff and James Tucker is a huge fan of alot of classic comic styles.

I think it will be better than "The Batman"

Anyway, the 60's show was awesome and anyone who disagrees is a crazy fool.

Also, Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman movie.

In the show, it was repeatedly brought up that he was specially deputized, so I think that was meant to explain why the cops never normally tried to go after Batman (the only times they ever did was usually when Penguin tried to frame him for something).

But yeah, during Vietnam, a serious Batman series would never have happened. I look at the show as basically a double-edged sword; on the heels of the Senate hearings in the '50s which almost destroyed comics, the Batman TV series proved that they had real viability as commercial properties and on that note ensured their survival - but on the other hand, it also camped the heck out of the property and made it impossible for anyone to take the medium seriously again for some time.

As for the new cartoon...I say 'wait and see'.

I agree. I'm not too keen on that teaser image, but I'll wait to see how it works in the actual series.

The Wertham crusade against comics in the 1950s destroyed any attempt at "serious" in the artform, and was partly responsible for the silliness that ensued in the few surviving superhero books.

By the 60s, camp* was big in entertainment (see shows like Gilligan's Island, My Mother the Car, etc), and when the show's creator read a Batman comic, I think on a plane trip, he realized it would fit in well. Unfortunately, this happened just as Julie Schwartz was ushering inthe "new look" Batman, that was an attempt to bring the book back to it's detective roots.

I used to abhor the tv series for what it did to destroy comic books in public perception, but that was mitigated with the release of Burton's Batman in '89, and since have learned to appreciate it for what it is - a product of it's times, and one of the very best camp series ever.

*camp is a terribly overused term by people who don't know better. I've seen it applied to the original Trek, to Buffy, and many other series and films that do not in any way fit the definition. But Batman is definately camp.
