Yup. Something someone pointed out to me when Animated first premiered.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was an intentional homage on DJW's part.

 

You should see the new Activators repaint. The homages go ever further.

Oh, and have you seen Battlestars Megatron compared to the Animated Version? That was an intentional homage too.

Anyone notice that Animated Prime's looks a lot like ALL carnations of him overall?

Yep and even Sari looked like Powermaster Optimus Prime on Halloween episode. (Sounded like Prime too when she wanted to).  

 

This just in: Armada Prime's head looks like...well...every other Optimus. As does G1, G2, BW, Energon, and Animated. More on this breaking news as we get updates...

 

I think the Wingblade mode was an omage to SC too, but I could be wrong.

 

The Animated Optimus design is one of many great designs Derrick Wyatt had for Animated. I hope we get him for the next series character designer, except next time a better animation studio that does his designs justice.

 

He's talking about the chest, specifically. And yeah, that new Activators that will come out brings the homage even closer.

 

I never noticed, but then, I'm not very familiar with the Japanese characters.

Did anyone ever go on record as officially saying these were homages or is this just what we're noticing as fanboys?

 

Derrick Wyatt crammed tons of homages into the series. A lot of them are intentional, others just coincidental. For Prime I think it's more a case of taking the classic cartoon hero with the big barrel chest and applying that style to Optimus Prime, although there's certainly a lot of influences from all the different versions in there.


Megatron is a definite reference to Super Megatron with the design of the head and the tall shoulders, though. But again he also calls up references to the other variations on the G1 Megatron design and combines them into the final version.
