heck the ps3 has enough power to be in the next gen. i am sure the new xbox will use blu ray and have 3d features which the ps3 already has.

Doesn't sony own blu ray? If they do I doubt they'd let microsoft use it in the next xbox.

The fact that people were actually speculating a PS4 is silly.

Unlike the Wii, the PS3 and 360 can last another handful of years before needing to be upgraded to a new console. They were made for longevity.

I think Sony made the digital media disc. Every thing today uses them and we got pc that use blu ray.

Microsoft would only need to join the Blu Ray Disc Association in order to press the media. There shouldn't be any issue with MS using BD drives in an Xbox. Sony was involved with creating BD but they are not alone. Other manufacturers were also involved.

    ^Oh snap.

Anyways, not exactly surprising. Between hyping up the NGP, and the turbulence with PSN lately, it's not a great time to try to hype ANOTHER system. I'm sure they're working on it, probably have been for a while, but we probably wont see anything about it for a while. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn;t even hear about it next E3.

I hope they don't release a new console, just got mine a mouth ago and I am loving it. The Xbox actually has 3d features if you have the new with a hdmi connection and I think they can incorperate blu ray but then they would have to pay a royalty to sony(not 100% sure on this).

Thank god, I am certainly not in the mood to "upgrade" consoles any time soon, even though I have had my PS3 since launch. Besides the last 18 months have been great for the PS3 and after a poor introduction into the market it's really starting to hit it's stride and is primed for a strong second half of it's life cycle. Sony would be stupid to rush into next gen, especially with the whole PSN debacle still leaving a sour taste in a lot of mouths.

Well THATS a good thing cause at least I didn't get 2 PS3's for nothing right now. I still have plenty of play left on my ps3 I think yet before a PS4 comes along.

Not surprising. PS3's are doing fine as is - they took a while for people to learn to code for them well, as I recall. A good few years left in the system, I think (still got my release day George Forman Grill PS3 running fine and dandy). Xbox really needs to prioritise new disk formats, so they're on a much tighter schedule, IMO.

I'd really like the next gen to focus less on graphics though.

We've started (with KZ3 and BF3) seeing games that might for a second be able to pass as cool paintings when still - I wouldn't mind it plateauing for a bit whilst the other bits are worked on and improved.

(So, for instance, instead of "GTA5 with uber graphics and a huge city" we'd have "GTA5 with decent graphics, a decent sized city where you can enter every buidling and have full on crowds, all with full physics support and different appearances." Perhaps a bad example, though.)

I don't think Microsoft or Sony will be announcing a new console any time soon. Both my 360 and my PS3 work fine, and I'd like to see them stick around long enough for some really sweet games like that GTA V that Creaky mentioned to be released.

What, as opposed to the old PS4?

    Agreed.

That's exactly what it is. Like with the PSP, Sony wanted to skip the current generation with the PS3. The 360 was going to be half as powerful as it is now if it weren't for Epic, who kept bugging Microsoft for more ram.
