The straight-out-of-the-box bad paint job on my Screamer's shoulders bothered me like crazy, so I decided to do something about it. I disassembled both arms and let the parts soak in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes. Not only did it remove the paint, but it also removed the panel lining (oops!) So I attempted to re-do the pannel lining using a sharpie and water to dilute it. I'm sure there are better pens to do it, but I think the results came out pretty decent. Here's a before and after shot: And a closeup of the shoulders:
That does look good. I think I'll do that. How did you dilute the sharpie? Did you just draw over the panel lines and then wipe off the excess with a wet towel?
Wiping off the excess was tough, as the sharpie dries almost instantly, so I added a bit of water on the part before using the sharpie. I then removed stubborn ink spots with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
I love the "WTF are you looking at?" expression. I don't know. Looks good but I kinda like the strips in the shoulders.
Yeah, he does look like that, does he? I probably would've left the stripes, but they were too messed up. Now they're all gone
Did you remove them front his chest as well? If so how did you go about it without damaging any of the red paint (if it is paint?)?
If you take a look at the pics, you'll notice that the stripes are still on the chest. I think it actually looks good there. Besides, you're right, the red paint would get damaged.
Oh ok, you had said they're all gone, I wasnt sure if you were refering to all of the stripes or just all the shoulder stripes. Thanks.
Do you have a full body shot? Did you also remove them on the lower arm? What was your method of removing them? If it looks good enough then I might consider doing that as well.
Did you go through the thread? I've answered those questions already... Anyway, let me explain again. In a nutshell: Removing paint: Let the parts soak in rubbing alcohol for a minute or two. Rub off the paint with a dry cloth. Repeat if necessary. Redoing pannel lines: Use a very fine tip sharpie and liberally draw over the lines. Wipe excess ink with a damp cloth. Use cotton swab and rubbing alcohol for stubborn/excess ink spots. Finally, here's a full body shot like you requested. He looks like he's about to land!
D'oh! Sorry for not ready the thread carefully. Looks pretty cool although I was hoping you removed the lower arms too.
Yeah, I'm debating removing them or not... I think I'll do a digibash first and see the results. I actually kinda like the stripes on the forearms
Looks pretty good to me. I wonder though, how would Starscream look with no lower arm stripes, and red shoulder strips (a bit of a War Within throwback)?
