i heard\read somewhere Bay saying there would be no mass shifting...but im surprised in DOTM ratchet and bee are the same size, i noticed this in a couple scenes, but here's one example -

I don't think there's mass shifting, just extreme folding during some transformations. A real life example of this is comparing the movie toys of Lockdown and BB Bumblebee to some of the other deluxe cars. The cars are relatively the same size, but the 'bot modes for these two are pretty tall.
Another example is HA Sideswipe vs. HA Bumblebee. The cars are about the same size, but again Bee's robot mode is quite a bit taller.

I noticed that Ratchet was about Bee's size a few times. But many times the perspective was screwy (either looking down at the bots, or some looking up) so I could never get a good feel for it.

Laserbeak. One minute a compact photocopier, then a flat screen TV, then a child sized Bumblebee...

Bumblebee has always been that big lol. You've just never seen him side by side next to Ratchet to tell.

Actually there ARE size adjustments on the models.

These things do not actually transform as you will never get to see a full transformation that doesnt have dissapearing parts and what not. I think blackout was the only real transforming model as can be scene in tf1 ally way and that even had cheating.

I ve watched bee prime and the others and Prime definately gets bigger after transforming. They all change alot. Just take a look at the wheels on primes ankle they dont expand like the hip ones so they are good example but in bot mode they are almost the size of a human being but in truck mode they are barely half 3 feet tall.

the sad part is they do it to keep in scale with the larger decepticons but megs really never needed to be so large to start he didnt have an earth alt lol

Bay said no mass-shifting to mega-silly levels like Megatron to gun and Soundwave to tape deck.

A car to a slighty bigger/smaller robot than he should be isn't really the same thing as a thing the size of your hand transforming into a robot bigger than your apartment.

It looks like Ratchet is a bit father back to me. There wouldn't be much of a noticeable height difference since Ratchet is 20 feet and Bumblebee is around 16-18.

Where did you get that image from? Is it from the movie? I see Mirage on the right.

That's an early Ben Proctor concept for Sideswipe:

i say forced perspective in that scene and at the end when ratchet was telling bee he fought bravely.

unless bee was on an elevated platform.

The way I see it in the movieverse a Cybertronian can transform into anything that fits his or her dimensions, which is why Starscream can still be the same size as Megatron or Optimus (since the bulk of his parts make up his width as well as his height) and why Laserbeak took on forms of appliances that were all relatively the same size and dimension.

As soon as they said Megatron couldn't be a gun and Soundwave couldn't be a music device because they weren't allowing mass shifting, and then the Allspark mass shifted like a MF, I just decided to no longer put any thought in to it. It's just easier that way.
