how is Jazz ill fitting/ he turns from a small car (admittedly a sports car rather than an econo-box) into a robot with the exact same chassis design as G1 Skids (as they were the only 2 bots to share the reverse leg transformation from the Z-bros). this reminds me a bit of getting piled on for suggesting Tracks could be retooled from Wheeljack years ago...
RTS Jazz IS just a reshell away from Classics 4.0 Skids. Hell, I'm surprised no customiser's done it already!
I'll be the first to admit to eating crow over the whole Tracks/Wheeljack thing, but Jazz->Skids is a completely different story. The transformation scheme is similar (heck, it's probably the most common schema in the history of he brand: front bumper chest, roof back, legs from rear), but there's a lot more that goes into a retool than change from car part A to cart part B. A porsche/solstice hybrid isn't that close to the build of a Honda box car, a simple reshell would result in some pretty weird proportions and excessively hollow back kibble. As I said, 95+% percent new parts, why bother calling it a remold instead of a new mold by that point? At that point it's just shared design elements rather than the exact same chassis.
i wasn't talkin' a reshell, just a new head and pull the spoiler to make the car look more "stock". That is the most common TF scheme, but Jazz and Skids are the only 2 that have their toes fold into their shins, everyone else either has the back of the car flip 180 on the knees or the waist spin 180 resulting in bumper-toes. I mean i'd love a new mold for Skids, but i think he'd work terrific as a simple Jazz remold, and i'd rather get that then not get the character. (plus that mold has the G1 Skids feature of turning from one of the smallest cars too one of the tallest 'bots)
I'm ok with Skids, but I just can't see any kind of similarity between Skids and Trailbreaker - especially when Hoist and Trailbreaker are the existing and obvious mold twins. Skids really needs his own mold, but I'm not sure what else a Skids mold could be used for, other than the one I will not name. With a little bit of work though, Trailbreaker (and then Hoist) could be done from the Perceptor mold, which would fit a hell of a lot better than Reflector. Skids from the Ironhide/Ratchet mold would be too much of a stretch for me - kinda sorta similar alt mode, but robot mode just wouldn't do it. Am I remembering correctly that Hound, Jazz, Mirage, and Perceptor are the only car molds that do not have a repaint/redeco/remold done yet? (ignoring Botcon and Gobot usage, that is)
From the beginning, I've thought Trailbreaker from Perceptor and Gears from Kup would be acceptable. Gears is one we might actually get, but Trailbreaker probably not
I love Skids I want a Classics toy of him even more than Trailbreaker (but not by much) Jazz would make an AWFUL Skids. NO resemblance other than car bumper for chest/ doors as wings. By that logic Prowl and Movie Bumblebee are "perfect" molds for Skids as well.
I only consider a mold as being "re-used" when it's been turned into another character (i.e., I don't consider Astrotrain's Henkei release a re-use, despite the vastly different color). Under that criteria, Astrotrain, Megatron, Octane, Galvatron, Lugnut, Kup, Scourge, Windcharger, and Warpath are the ones that haven't been re-used. And if you take away that criteria, then all of those except the last 2 have been re-used, too
The legs are quite similar as well. I'm not saying it's perfect, I'd MUCH prefer a new mold, but if we have to settle for a remold, I think that's the best option. Way better than a blue Ironhide, at any rate.
Making G1 Skids out of a Porsche mode is something I'd like to call "missing the point" You guys are all speaking as if the only way we'll get Skids is as a remold. Need I remind all you doomsayers and negative nancys that we got mutherfriggin Straxus and Thunderwing last year as all-new molds?
