Wow. I figured she died years ago. RIP, only 84. wow.
I'm...actually kind of sad about this. Sophia was awesome.
Estelle! Thank you for being a friend....
I thought she was in her eighties, IN the eighties.
I thought she was alot older than that.
What I am shocked about is that the other ones are still alive...
I thought I read somewhere that was was in fact younger than her "Daughter" Bea Athur.
I think this was her one big Hollywood leading role.
Too bad it was the wrong one (for both of them).
I want that!! That looks funny as hell!Oh also
The thread title is so freaking tasteless...
I shouldn't be laughing.
Yeah, she was in her 60s when she landed the Sophia role, but it took her three auditions to get it, because she didn't look elderly enough the first two times.
My girlfriend is going to be devastated when she gets home and hears this. It's strange, but I think the only comparison I can make is that to her, "The Golden Girls" show was/is sort of like Transformers to me (or all of us here on this board). It's a show that she grew up with and was something that she could turn to when she needed to be cheered up or otherwise escape for a few moments from life. So long, Estelle.
here's a couple of my favorite quotes
Sophia: Let me tell you girls the three most important things I learned about life: number one, hold fast to your friends; number two, there's no such thing as security; and number three, don't go see "Ishtar." Woof.
Sophia: It's a nightmare, we've been visited by the Yutz of Christmas Past.
betty, rue, and beatrice had to help her with her lines
"Getty played mother to Bea Arthur on "The Golden Girls" (1985), however, Bea is actually 15½ months older than Estelle. Estelle being born July 25, 1923 and Bea was born May 13, 1922."
Use to watch it all the time...she played a great role on a great show and will definitely be missed...
Shame on you
Better cross her off my list of 'Things to do.'
